Avon is focused on educating women about breast health

 January 13, 2020

Prime employer Avon has long been at the forefront of the fight against breast cancer. Avon and the Avon Foundation for Women have donated more than $800 million USD to breast cancer causes, educated 180 million women about the disease, and funded breast health screening for nearly 20 million women.

Now, with the support of the Avon Foundation, the company has renewed its global commitment to raising breast cancer awareness with the Avon Breast Cancer Promise, a multi-year pledge educating women about breast health.

Why Avon is focusing on breast health education

Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women worldwide, with approximately two million women being diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

However, when Avon conducted a global survey of 19,000 Avon Representatives in 15 countries on their knowledge of breast cancer risks and signs, the findings showed a knowledge gap amongst women globally about symptoms and how to lower the risk of developing the disease.

Avon breast cancer awareness

Early detection saves lives

Avon believes that no woman should die because she was left in the dark about breast cancer.

Avon is therefore on a mission to:

  • help every woman know the risks, so, no matter her age, she understands the risks of developing breast cancer, and what she can do to manage them
  • help every woman know the signs, so she knows what breast health means for her, and can recognise the early signs of breast cancer
  • help every woman know how to take action, so she can seek help and medical advice when it's needed

Avon and the Avon Foundation are committed to reaching 100 million women annually to ensure every woman knows the risks and signs of breast cancer, and how and when to take action.

Becoming breast health aware

Avon breast health

Early detection of breast cancer saves lives. Too many women still aren’t aware of their risks, and don’t know what signs to look for, or what to do and where to go if they have concerns.

Take a #BreastBreak

Avon has marked its support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by opening up even more opportunities for women all around the world to ‘take a #BreastBreak’ and help support early detection of breast cancer globally.

This idea includes opening dialogue about regular self checks, being aware of any changes in breast appearance, or making time to speak with a medical professional.

Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Advisory Board

Breast Cancer Advisory Board

With the support of the Avon Foundation, Avon is proud of what the company has achieved. However, Avon knows there is more to do and it cannot be done alone.

The Avon Foundation has therefore convened a global stakeholder advisory board of leading breast cancer organisations who will offer insight on key issues and advice on how best to deliver the commitment of the Avon Breast Cancer Promise.
