Eatons Chief Legal Officer April Miller Boise is awarded

Eaton's Chief Legal Officer April Miller Boise is awarded

 October 05, 2021

“It's really about creating opportunities for people in the community to get to that pinnacle, and to drive relationships with law firms, which will also drive opportunities for minority lawyers and women at law firms,” says April Miller Boise, Eaton's Chief Legal Officer who received a Champion of Diversity Award from Corporate Counsel.

At the forefront of driving change at Eaton

When April Miller Boise first became general counsel at Eaton in early 2020, she was pleased with the number of women on her legal team, but she was struck by one big problem. There were no people of color on the senior leadership team at all.

Since then, she has been at the forefront of driving change.

Now, two-thirds of Eaton's legal department leadership consists of women and attorneys from underrepresented backgrounds. Eaton’s board of directors mirrors that statistic, while 54% of senior leadership in the U.S. consists of minorities.

Improving talent pool diversity

April has done more than promote inclusion in-house, however. Under her leadership, Eaton’s legal team has been evaluating its outside counsel roster and moves work to firms that are making an effort to improve diversity in their own talent pools.

Driving honest conversations and implementing tangible actions

“I admire her courage in driving honest conversations and implementing tangible actions to address racial inequities and social injustice,” says Monica Jackson, Global Inclusion & Diversity VP at Eaton. “Her presence at Eaton is felt and her voice is heard.”

"In addition to providing excellent legal counsel, April Miller Boise is a leader and strategist who continues to help us evolve. Thank you Corporate Counselfor recognizing April with the Champion of Diversity Award," announced Eaton in response to the news.
