Join our product safety and environmental team in Belfast, where you will assist in the assessment of the safety of advanced weapon systems throughout their lifecycles. You will advise on and assist with the implementation of design features that will ensure that the safety and environmental requirements are met. This is a vital role in ensuring the correct design mitigation activities are identified and implemented to ensure the safe use of Thales products, both by internal and external Customers.

Key responsibilities

To assume responsibility for specific aspects of the design activities within area of expertise as part of an Integrated Project Team
To operate the Safety Management Processes on a Programme, conduct safety analysis and construct valid safety arguments
To help carry out risk evaluation and specify weapon system requirements in the areas of performance, engineering features, interfacing and testing requirements
Help communicate a reasoned argument for the inclusion of measures, to the design teams, in order to ensure adherence to all the safety and environmental requirements
To help maintain and ensure compliance to processes and procedures
To be aware of and help implement all relevant safety and environmental standards and regulations
Help with planning and estimating the cost of project engineering activities

Skills, qualifications and experience

Ability to define and implement good general engineering design principles and methodology
Ability to carry out safety analysis and construct safety arguments using best practice approach
Ability to carry out general environmental analysis and evaluation using best practice approach
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience of working in an engineering environment
Experience of working in a safety design related environment is desirable
Science or Engineering degree (or equivalent)
Recognised qualification in system safety would be ideal
