AECOM invest heavily in the quality of our apprentice & trainee programme and the opportunities it provides. Of course we do — it is designed to equip our future leaders and technical experts. AECOM currently has more than 300 apprentices & trainees across the UK & Ireland, learning from some of the most talented and renowned experts in their field, bringing fresh approaches and further diversifying our workforce.

We are looking for circa 15 apprentices & trainees to join our Water Engineering teams across the UK, in our wastewater, water resources, tunnelling, and civil infrastructure teams. Communities around the globe are challenged to find effective ways to manage water throughout the water cycle restoring the water we use to continue sustaining the natural environment. At AECOM, our Water specialists work together worldwide to find innovative solutions to the management of water.

Our work includes, Flood Management, Integrated Catchment Management, Hydraulic Modelling, Hydrology, Sustainable Drainage, Water Sensitive Urban Design, Dam & Reservoir design, Hydro-power, Mains Infrastructure Design (Clean and Foul), Non-Infrastructure Design (Pumping Stations, Storage Tanks), and Hydro-power.

Our AECOM water teams have worked on projects such as:
Chester Zoo – Using 360 ingenuity, AECOM designed unique drainage strategies complementing the attraction’s natural aesthetics, including a bespoke Orang-utan proof filter trench and reed beds that treat runoff from the Banteng enclosure.
For the Jeddah Stormwater Drainage Programme AECOM delivered fast-tracked solutions including 10 flood-protection dams and 170km of channels and conduits to protect the city’s 3.5 million residents.
During Northern Ireland Water’s Integrated Wastewater Framework AECOM delivered services from concept to commissioning on a £150M capital programme involving new wastewater treatment works and major wastewater infrastructure upgrades throughout Northern Ireland. Services included feasibility, design, contract management and site supervision.
The Grampian Growth Model was initiated by Scottish Water in response to the substantial levels of development activity predicted across the region over the next 20 years. AECOM successfully built a large scale computerised model of the mains network for use as a hydraulic tool to assess the impact of the growth and develop sustainable measures to ensure all customers, both existing and future, continue to receive the highest possible level of service.
Working on a wide variety of projects with a variety of clients ensures real opportunities for personal growth and career progression as our apprentices & trainees develop professionally within a positive culture where learning and development is actively supported and promoted. Responsibilities may include:
Production of CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings
Preparation of simple civil calculations
Undertaking graphical design and desk top publishing
Supporting the administration of projects, including maintaining records
Assisting with data review and analysis
