Systems Development Engineer, Amazon Web Services

Do you have a passion for system engineering, Linux, Python or Perl, and deep diving incredibly hard technical problems? Interested in learning about networking? Then, this is the role for YOU!

At Amazon Web Services, we build and maintain one of the largest and most complex networks on the planet. Our goal is to become “The Infrastructure Platform” to the world. We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic and talented Systems Development Engineers to help us to automate how we build our network. Your job will be to work with our Network Engineers to design and develop innovative internal tools and processes and to integrate these tools into Amazon’s existing suite to enable us to build our network in a faster and safer way.

As a Systems Development Engineer working within AWS Infrastructure you will:
· Work closely with our network engineers to translate the network growth and scaling requirements into a systems requirement definition.
· Partner with with our automation teams to turn these requirements into efficiently functioning systems and tools, enabling Amazon to scale its network at unprecedented speed.
· Ensure that all systems are designed to be robust, scalable, maintainable and adaptable as the network and its topology changes over time.
· Develop processes and training for users of the developed tools and systems.
· Work closely with our internal customers on designs/solutions; bringing those designs/solutions from concept to production.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or 4+ years relevant work experience

· Candidates should have 2+ years industry experience in a similar environment.
· Proficiency in Python or Perl and in writing Bash scripts
· Extensive experience with operating services and large geo-distributed systems
· Knowledge of operating systems, especially Linux

Our ideal candidate is highly autonomous, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, strong project management and time management skills and has a successful track record of designing simple, scalable solutions and troubleshooting complex problems and delivering innovative solutions. The desire and ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment is essential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Be highly innovative, flexible and self-directed
· Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs
· Deep experience integrating software solutions, automating manual processes and/or building portals or internal tools
· Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through launch and providing ongoing support during normal operations and subsequent upgrade and improvement cycles
· Strong understanding of system and application performance characteristics
· Working knowledge of Agile development methods
