To lead and manage the delivery of packages of signalling design, in line with the scope of works, the phasing of works on site. Producing book wiring, bills of materials, design risk assessments. All work is in required to achieve company objectives in terms of programme schedule, financial and quality targets.
To ensure that the Engineering Processes are applied correctly and appropriately on the project to company, legislative, regulatory and international standards.
This role includes significant application of signalling design principles from either the post holder or members of the team.

Defining and delivering the strategy, plan and implementation of the overall Engineering Solution for the work package..

Directing and providing overall management and engineering leadership to the team assigned to the work package to deliver the Engineering solution to time, cost and quality.

Ensuring the timely and accurate production of the Design deliverables mapped to the requirements.

Undergone appropriate Inter-Disciplinary Reviews & checks
Are free from errors and design defects and flaws.

Supporting the Design Manager, identifying change, variation, risk and opportunity, recovery and acceleration as it affects the delivery of the Engineering solution.

Overseeing the development of cost and time estimates for project activities to meet business and customer objectives.

Leading and implementing agreed change and stimulating innovation into the project to improve overall out-turn.

Validate the engineering delivery progress and support the accurate measurement of progress on the project.

Participating with other members of the Programme or bid senior management team to ensure that the Programme or bid meets its business and customer objectives.

Ensuring that any Corrective Actions and Observations related to the engineering delivery and solution are closed in a timely and complete manner.

Supporting and assisting the Engineering Functional Teams to strengthen the businesses engineering capabilities and competencies.

Be analytical about the whole process, to be always looking to continually improve: the on time delivery, cost of quality, cost of non quality and rework.


Extensive multidisciplinary Engineering expertise, with specific knowledge of the domain, infrastructure, Systems Integration practices and the disciplines utilised on the project.
Ability to develop innovative and low risk practical engineering strategies to manage a complex project through its lifecycle.
Strong knowledge and proven application of Engineering Project Delivery and processes across the full project lifecycle.
Team leadership – with a proven ability to build and sustain good working relationships with staff, peers and managers, customers and stakeholders.
Familiarity with Project management and delivery processes and practices, commercial acumen and a robust approach to budget and schedule control.
Effective personal organisation and an ability to remain composed, focused with attention to detail under pressure.


Leading the delivery of signalling designs in accordance with standards and internal procedures.

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills, experience and knowledge:
Minimum of 5 years proven signalling engineering experience, including senior responsibility;
Appropriate technical qualification or equivalent;
IRSE Principles Designer Licence 1.1.150D or 1.1.130; 1.1.550
IRSE Signalling Design Verifier Licence 1.1.160;
Registration with the IRSE, ideally to Member level;
Extensive knowledge of signalling principles;
experience, and to act as an independent verifier of the work of others;
Able to provide resource estimates to the Design Manager.
Able to act as a Mentor to members if the signalling design staff as directed.
Able to communicate effectively and establish good relationships with other team Knowledge of contractual conditions.


Engineering Degree or equivalent
Chartered Engineer / Member of Professional Institution


IRSE Principles Designer Licence 1.1.150D or 1.1.550.
HND/Engineering Degree or equivalent
Have attained, or working towards an appropriate professional status or equivalent

Financial / Budgetary Responsibility:

The post holder will be expected to deliver and implement designs/projects to an agreed budget.
