Manager of Quality Assurance (ACS - Sumner, WA)

Role Purpose
In our Sumner, WA Facility; plans and directs the overall Quality program for specific processes at our Orangeburg, SC facility. Establishes quality policies and procedures and ensures conformance with established company, group, and site needs and objectives. Develops and implements the product and quality systems and facilitates corrective actions to ensure conformity with customer requirements. Interfaces with customers as needed. Generally operates with appreciable latitude for non-reviewed action and decision making.
Key Responsibilities
Manages overall Quality System including Quality Engineering, Quality Inspection, NDI, Calibration, DSQR, Audits, Corrective Action system and serves as Chief Quality Customer liaison.

Manages the company’s quality resources to reduce defects and improve overall quality measurement, and ensure parts and paperwork are accurate and complete prior to shipment. Ensures personnel are properly trained to perform job functions.

Directs ISO, AS9100, NADCAP, and other quality compliance certifications required by customers and/or government agencies, and leads and participates in compliance audits.

Communicates and corresponds with customers, suppliers, employees, and management within the company regarding quality issues, problems, and complaints.

Manages Quality Audit Program including External and Internal Audits, Corrective Actions and follow up.

Ensures Suppliers are adhering to Purchase Order and Quality provision requirements. Works with Suppliers to obtain Cause and Corrective Actions as applicable.

Responsible to ensure first article and first article paperwork is accurate and timely for submittal to customers.

Identifies and resolves manufacturing problems that affect quality and assists manufacturing and quality engineering personnel with the interpretation of complex part prints and specifications.

Responsible for compensation, performance appraisals, coaching, mentoring, training, directing, and job assignments of Quality Department staff.

Generates Metrics for Tag Reduction, Cost of Quality, Escapes and other Quality metrics as needed to support achievement of goals and reduce non conformances.

Serves as liaison with manufacturing operations staff to improve product processes, as technical quality contact with customers and laboratories.

Creates a team atmosphere with operations and other functional groups to assure robust and long-lasting corrective actions.

Ensures that quality tools and procedures are developed and applied consistently across the organization.

Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills
Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Quality, or equivalent experience in related industry.

Minimum of five (5) years as a Quality Engineer or equivalent experience.

Familiarity with NDT processes, inspection methods, coordinate measuring machines, and other measuring and test equipment. Working knowledge of applicable manufacturing and quality requirements including ISO 9001, AS 9100, and QS 9000. Proficient in the use of personal computers, blueprint reading, geometric tolerances, and application of SPC to the manufacturing process. Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving, and public speaking skills, and an understanding of aerospace requirements. Broad knowledge of inspection techniques and methods. Good planning and training skills plus ability to make decisions and function in high pressure environment.
