2017 GRADUATE HARDWARE & FIRMWARE ENGINEER

We are recruiting for a Systems Engineer intern to join our Land and Air Systems business based at our state-of-the-art super-site in Glasgow. You will join a community of highly experienced, like-minded Systems Engineers working on our full suite of cutting edge opto-electronic products and technologies, including: Naval periscopes and masts; Armoured vehicle sightings and weapons systems; Range finders and thermal imagers, plus many many more.

Become part of a team with a proven track record for delivering firmware for a wide range of land and air based related products. The team you will be part of provides a cradle to grave service for the HDL firmware aspects of products including:
- Initial architecture, requirements specification, design, verification and validation.
- Working in conjunction with systems, software and hardware engineers to develop electronic systems.

Projects involve using the latest industry class development tools for FPGAs and SoC hardware technologies. Work is carried out to a structured firmware design process.

Key responsibilities
Design firmware using Hardware Description Languages or High Level Synthesis Languages
Verify firmware using Hardware Description languages or Hardware Verification Languages
Enhancement of firmware related processes (documenting, scripting, reporting, process automation)
Working closely with multi-disciplinary teams

Desired skills, qualifications and experience
A relevant degree (BEng, MEng, EngD, PhD) in electronics or computer science or related science (e.g. Physics)

This will be supported by knowledge of the appropriate fundamental elements in:
Image processing techniques and algorithms
Networking protocols
Object Orientated design Techniques
Verification Methodologies
Linux environments
digital electronic design principals
Agile methodologies
FPGA basic architectures: Xilinx, Altera, Microsemi, Lattice
Strong communications, verbally and in writing
Desirable Attributes:
Knowledge of hardware development languages: VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog, C, C++,
Knowledge of scripting languages: TCL, PERL, Python
Knowledge of development tools: Xilinx Vivado/ISE, Altera Quartus, Microsemi Libero, Lattice Diamond
Knowledge of HDL Simulator Tools: Modelsim, Incisive is desirable

UK mobility may be required whilst on your graduate programme.

Please note that GDP activities take place during the working week but may require the investment of some personal time for travel and follow up activities. You may have the opportunity to travel to Thales and non Thales sites throughout the UK when participating in Graduate Development Programme activities.
