2017 GRADUATE MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

Thales Defence Mission Systems based at our super-site in Templecombe, Somerset are recruiting for a Graduate Manufacturing Engineer to join their multifunctional engineering and operations teams to install, monitor and develop all the systems and controls needed to successfully manufacture existing and new products. You will be working with likeminded professionals, contributing to technology that will be used within maritime mission systems that include radar, sonar and mine hunting capabilities.

The aim of a manufacturing engineer is to develop and maintain efficient manufacturing systems, producing the maximum volume of high-quality product at the lowest cost, and in the shortest time. Manufacturing engineers are involved in the entire product development lifecycle from initial bid, system design, detailed design and transfer into manufacture.

Key responsibilities
Implementing process controls within a manufacturing environment for new and existing products
Using analytical problem solving techniques to resolve operational issues
Learning lean manufacturing techniques to identify opportunities and implement continuous improvement
Using lean manufacturing techniques to improve the layout of the manufacturing environment, and flow of material
Creating and updating manufacturing instructions from a high level set of design documentation
Assisting in the resolution of supplier and in-house build issues
Creating new product routings and refreshing existing routings
Identifying and removing potential hazards
Assisting in the calculation of production costs
Sourcing new suppliers of industrial equipment.

Desired skills, qualifications and experience
You will ideally be studying for a relevant degree, i.e. Mechanical Engineering, Electrical or Electronic Engineering or Product Design.

UK mobility may be required whilst on your graduate programme.

Please note that GDP activities take place during the working week but may require the investment of some personal time for travel and follow up activities. You may have the opportunity to travel to Thales and non-Thales sites throughout the UK when participating in Graduate Development Programme activities.
