2017 INTERN SYSTEMS ENGINEER - 12 MONTHS

We are recruiting for an intern Systems Engineer to join our Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) team based out of our newly built super-site in Crawley for a 12 month placement. You will be working in a large community of Systems Engineers, with a wide variety of experience. This offers excellent opportunities for transverse career development. The ISR Domain at Crawley specialises in:
- Radar Electronics
- Electronic Detection & Countermeasures
- Integrated Surveillance Targeting And Reconnaissance (ISTAR) systems (including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles)

A Systems Engineer is expected to support state of the art electronic hardware and firmware development, mechanical assemblies, software development and networked computing systems. You will be expected to demonstrate an aptitude for learning new tools and training will be given. Relevant experience of modelling and simulation packages will be beneficial.

Key responsibilities:
Requirements Management (Capture, Analysis, Articulation, Allocation, Apportionment, and Configuration)
Creation of Functional and Physical System Architectures
Modelling or prototyping of the design
Preparation of Specifications for the Thales equipment and for subcontracted elements of the design
Preparation of Interface Control Documentation & System Test and Integration Specifications
Preparation of Plans and Specifications for Subsystem testing (laboratory and field)
Trials of equipment in the field and documentation of results

Skills, experience & qualifications
You will have a Bachelor Degree (BEng, BSc) in a numerate, scientific or engineering subject, e.g. Software engineering, systems engineering, computer science, electronics etc.

Subject areas of particular interest within the degree:
Systems Engineering, electronics,RADAR or Defence Systems (Maritime/Land), control engineering.

Desirable:
General understanding of what a the systems engineering lifecycle and methodology
Familiarity with information technology and security
Understanding of Requirements Capture and Analysis
Basic understanding of Safety principles
Awareness of Environmental & Electromagnetic Compatibility
Awareness of the principles of design change and configuration control
Cost and Schedule planning Awareness
Engineering and Industrial Commercial Awareness
Safety in design and design of the environment

In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years.
