Sales and Business Development Programme

The Thales UK Sales Function is responsible for winning new work across the whole of the UK business. In the past 2 years the team has won over £2.5 billion of new business, including a number of significant Domestic and Export contracts.

This is an exciting, challenging and high profile role that sits within Thales Sales and Business Development. Successful candidates can expect to be involved in customer fronting Sales and Business Development activity for both Domestic and Export Sales and sales support activity. This role will involve overseas travel.

What you’ll be doing
In this role you will be studying towards a Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) under the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship standard. For the duration of this 4 year programme you will be given one day per week in which to complete your studies. For the other 4 days you will be working in the business, applying your university learning and gaining a breadth of experience across the Sales function. This programme requires a commitment of 2 evenings per week in order to join the university virtual classroom sessions. To be successful, this programme will require an investment of personal time outside of working hours.

Primary Responsibilities
Supporting front line Sales – Domestic and Export
Responsible for growing and qualifying a pipeline of opportunities (Business Development)
Participating and facilitating business winning reviews
Sales Operations and Support – Forecasting, analysing, reporting and co-ordinating bid and peer reviews both Domestic and Export
Participating in major shows e.g. Farnborough / Paris Air Show. DSEI etc.
Who we’re looking for
During the past 2 years Thales has significantly invested in the Sales function and we are looking for the very best individuals to join our team. We are particularly looking for people who have an appetite for travel, like to learn and develop, are very ambitious and driven, who like to win and make decisions, and people who are tenacious and like a challenge.

You will also need
3 A levels grade A-C or equivalent (Minimum 260+ UCAS points on current tariff or 120 points on new tariff). Any non-business degree is also welcomed (engineering, finance, etc.)
Through work experience or research, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the key principles of winning business. Evidence of work experience is highly desirable but not essential.
The candidate will need to demonstrate commercial and business acumen
Ability to work well within teams, self-motivated and prepared to take the initiative
Strong administrative and organisational skills with the ability to focus attention to contractual detail and provide a robust audit trail
Strong planning and time management skills
A natural ability to develop relationships with others
Able to demonstrate good general IT skills, with experience and knowledge of Excel, Word and Power Point being highly desirable
You will be an effective communicator, with active listening skills and be willing to present to stakeholders and customers at all levels
This role will suit someone who is resilient, quick thinking and able to adapt to different situations under pressure
A strong appetite for travelling – nationally and worldwide
Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the 4 year programme
