We are recruiting for a Graduate Software Engineer to join our Security and Communications team at our newly built super-site in Crawley, West Sussex. The Thales Security and Communications (SIX) Business Unit develops state of the art communications, protection and security systems and products for a number of high profile customers, including the MoD. Thales systems can be seen throughout the Royal Navy fleet, including the new QEC Aircraft Carrier, and are deployed throughout the armed forces. Our systems provide the means by which all communications are undertaken whilst protecting lives at all levels.

Your role will be to work as a member of the software development team located at Crawley designing and implementing software solutions in accordance with programme and product requirements. This may involve projects ranging from advanced communications systems to personal protection equipment. Tasks range from requirements management through the design and development cycle to test, integration and validation of complex systems. This may include working on large scale software systems, embedded applications or complex Digital Signal Processing solutions.You will be participate in the Thales Graduate Development Programme and work towards achieving a professional, Chartered Engineer (C.Eng), qualification.

To deliver tasks set by others on time and to the required quality
To work as a team-player asking for guidance and direction where necessary
To develop knowledge and skills within the software development field
To effectively communicate engineering issues related to own tasks

Desired skills, qualifications and experience
You will be studying for a relevant STEM degree, such as software engineering, computer science etc.
The ability to interpret requirements, create software designs and code, test and integrate complex software solutions
Ability to work under own initiative with minimum supervision
Co-operative manner and able to work as a member of a team
Able to learn new technologies and share knowledge
Strong written and oral communication skills
Experience of developing software applications using the latest tools is highly desirable
Also experience of working to a formal software development process
Knowledge of the C/C++ language would be beneficial

UK mobility may be required whilst on your graduate programme.

Please note that GDP activities take place during the working week but may require the investment of some personal time for travel and follow up activities. You may have the opportunity to travel to Thales and non-Thales sites throughout the UK when participating in Graduate Development Programme activities.

In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years.
