About the Business Line Building Engineering
We deliver creative solutions for building projects for industry, government, commercial and leisure sectors. Our building engineering specialists have expertise in structural and building services engineering, fire engineering, acoustics, facades and seismic design. We embed sustainability principles in every design.

Job Summary
This is a permanent full-time Apprentice/Trainee role ideally suited to school leavers - if you are a graduate please apply to our Graduates UK & Ireland 2017 positions, and if you are a university student looking for a temporary placement please apply to our industrial placement or internship positions.

AECOM is one of the world’s largest professional engineering consultancies, bringing a comprehensive portfolio of multidisciplinary engineering skills with our structural engineers frequently providing the leading role in the development of building projects. We are currently engaged in a wide variety of building projects from world class sporting venues through to commercial properties, healthcare and research, hotels and resorts, industrial and manufacturing developments. These projects are located both in the UK and increasingly overseas. Recent examples of our projects are the award winning Halley VI research laboratory in Antarctica, the Serpentine Gallery in Hyde Park, the venues for the Rio Olympics, Spartak Moscow’s new football stadium and Portonovi One and Only Hotel Resort in Montenegro.

The successful applicant will continually develop their skills and progress their career in engineering. They will be supported at college/university (usually one day per week at a recognised provider) in order to hone technical skills, ensuring real opportunities for personal growth and career progression. We also run a variety of in-house training sessions.


Job responsibilities include:

Production of CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings using Autodesk AutoCAD.
Production of 3D models using Autodesk Revit.
Supporting the administration of projects.
Assisting with data review and analysis.
Ensuring drawing outputs are accurate and meet the required standards
Meeting agreed deadlines
Working as a member of a team
Contributing to providing solutions to problems
Promoting AECOM’s vision and values throughout their day to day activities

Minimum Requirements
No experience is necessary but the position is ideally suited to school leavers at GCSE or A/ AS level standard (or equivalent) who can demonstrate:
GCSE Maths, English and Science, grades A-C , and/ or either - Completed first year of BTEC National Diploma or AS or 'A' levels - preferably STEM subjects
An aptitude towards software-based engineering and drawing e.g. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D software.
An interest in and a desire to pursue a career specifically in Structural Engineering.
Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.
A creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic character.
Attention to detail.
The ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects.

Preferred Qualifications Qualifications in STEM subjects advantageous
