Primary Purpose of the Role:

The Hardware Engineering Manager (HwEM) is responsible for the completion of a set of engineering design/development tasks within the committed cost, schedule, performance and required level of quality.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

The HwEM is responsible for agreeing with the Project / Product / Research&Development teams that he/she is allocated to support:
What engineering artefacts are to be delivered by When.
The HwEM is then responsible for enabling the development teams to define:
How this is to be achieved including the responsible management of the technical risk. This detailed plan is to be captured in the sprint backlog register.

Furthermore, the HwEM:
Motivates the team to own the successful delivery of the engineering artefacts.
Ensures that the development team track and manage progress against the identified activities, reporting progress, taking remedial action and escalating issues as appropriate, including Design to cost etc with clear targets and tracking of achievement against these
Where practicable, is to maximise the use of Agile Development techniques to ensure timely delivery of the Engineering DDQS Tasks in accordance with company procedures and practices.
Manages their own day-to-day activities and provide direction and guidance to the team(s) delivering their commitments. Activities are required to be planned and completed in accordance with the varying project requirements (project requirements, bid timescales, monthly reporting cycle, etc).
Is responsible for defining and collating the required metrics and reports required by both the Project/Product /SFR&D and Engineering Management team in a timely and accurate way.
Is a contributor to the estimation process in relation to DDQS aspects of projects that he/she is allocated to.

Skills and Experience
No specific qualifications required, but evidence of the ability to lead and motivate a group of people to achieve a goal is important.
Knowledge of the Chorus 2 Hardware Engineering Design, Develop and Qualify the Solution Process Lifecycle, or equivalent.
Knowledge of Agile Development techniques
