Associate Director - Highways

Job Summary
Our Newcastle based Strategic Highways team currently has a vacancy for an Associate Director to support our growth which is underpinned by major highway project opportunities locally, nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will take responsibility in all aspects of highway design to work on local, national and international schemes. We require people who have gained team management skills who will provide the necessary highways technical experience and mentoring to other team members.

The highways business in the North East represents over 40 years of accumulated skills, experience and established culture in the delivery of all types of highway schemes; from major motorway improvements with Highway England such as the A1 Dishforth to Barton Improvement scheme to major highways such as Morpeth Northern Bypass, New Tyne Crossing and challenging junction improvements on the strategic highway network. We are looking to enhance and enlarge these teams with people who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination.

Provide technical leadership for the Highways team and lead by example
Fulfil the role of technical lead, and/or project manager
Effectively and efficiently undertake Project and team activities, including commercial, managerial and technical aspects.
Contribute to the development and improvement of technical standards and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
Ensure Safety Health and Environment procedures are implemented
Generate and maintain good Client relations;
Resolve Client and project issues;
Review the project against company processes and client requirements;
Where appropriate, monitor the performance of the team, to ensure that the project outputs are subject to appropriate scrutiny and verification; Establishing strong working relationships with other internal teams within AECOM
Take an active role in work winning, supporting business development activities including the development of Client relationships

Minimum Requirements
The successful candidate will be a Chartered Engineer with proven design and project management experience, delivering quality products to strict financial and programme targets. They will preferably have experience of working collaboratively as part of a team developing a range of major highway projects for Highways England’s or Highway Authority schemes.

As well as the above the chosen candidate will also have the following:

Be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills.
Excellent technical and communication skills along with experience of managing and undertaking a range of highway engineering related projects.
Ability to demonstrate experience or understanding of Health and Safety including CDM responsibilities
Extensive working knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges
Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment, operating across a matrix of projects.
Experience of working with HE processes (i.e. Project Control Framework and Collaborative Delivery Framework) desirable
Experience of working in the Design and Build sector particularly preparing tenders for contractors.
A flexible approach to supporting project and business development activities across wider AECOM geographies

Preferred Qualifications
Degree qualified, with Chartered Engineer (or Incorporated) status through a relevant professional institution (MICE and or MCIHT)
