About the Business Line Environment
Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.

Job Summary
Our Ground Engineering team in Bedford is currently looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer with extensive experience of providing geotechnical design input to a variety of engineering projects. The candidate will be working predominantly on projects associated with the Transportation (Road and Rail) sector but providing support to projects in other offices, which currently include tunnelling, remediation and nuclear schemes. AECOM ground engineering is currently expanding its capability to provide a more comprehensive offering to our major clients.The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:
Scoping, tendering and administering ground investigations and acting as the Engineer;
Design of geotechnical works including slope stability, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks and ground improvement;
Reporting to the design team leader you will also interface directly with other ground engineering team members, from graduate to Directors and with other internal design teams and various disciplines;
You will have strong development skills and the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance and teaching to others, particularly junior staff, if and when required;
Ability to work collaboratively and iteratively within a multi-disciplinary design team, to ensure work packages are delivered on time and within budget;
Establishing strong working relationships and ensuring regular liaison with other internal teams;
Be aware of and understand the AECOM Project Management procedures, their importance and their application to projects, including monthly progress and budget reviews of projects;
Carry out regular design reviews in accordance with the company Quality Management System.

Minimum Requirements
You will be a geotechnical engineer with a proven track record in the successful technical delivery of projects, in particular for Network Rail and/or Highways England;
You will be able to write clear and concise technical reports;
You will have a valid UK driving licence;
Due to the location of some of the projects you must be willing to travel within the UK.

Preferred Qualifications
A first degree in Civil Engineering, although individuals with an Engineering Geology or similar background will be considered
You will have a MSc in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or similar
Chartered Engineer with ICE, IOM3 or equivalent
