Analyst, BIS Researchers

The Business Information Services (BIS) Research team undertakes in-depth research into various sectors, entities and markets relating to the bank’s countries and areas of operation. Researchers use a range of online data sources and also contact external agencies when appropriate. As part of the bank’s integrity and risk management process, BIS also conducts searches into the identity, reputation, and commercial and political interests of parties with whom the bank intends to conduct business. This is an important part of the bank’s overall risk management approach.

This role is responsible for conducting general and integrity research for bankers and other staff within the EBRD. In addition, and subject to capacity and skills, further responsibility will be assigned for specific research related projects and initiatives.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Complete research and integrity requests from bank staff. Provide them with accurate and reliable data to support their work and decision making. Analyse and filter search results and ensure that they are presented in a clear and easily digestible format to avoid ‘information overload’.
Liaise with colleagues about work allocation and help ensure that work volumes are managed effectively.
Follow team information management guidelines to facilitate file retrieval and knowledge sharing.
Advise and guide bank staff undertaking their own research to ensure they make effective and efficient use of the data sources available. Input in to the evaluation of existing and potential information sources to ensure that they meet business needs. Provide feedback to data providers and liaise with IT as necessary with regard to product functionality.
Maintain an accurate and comprehensive audit trail of all research requests so that any future queries raised can be answered. Develop client relations with bank staff using BIS, helping to ensure that services continue to meet business needs. Constantly review the opportunities to streamline and improve research processes and investigate potential improvements.
Represent BIS positively across the bank to encourage all bank staff to take advantage of the support available.

Other responsibilities are assigned from time to time. These are likely to include one or more of the following:

Conduct research and/or Integrity checks in other languages where skills permit.
Undertake more in-depth research, under supervision if necessary, skills and capacity permitting.
Support BIS’s marketing activities, including creating and maintaining intranet content
Maintain file management protocols.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Academic Qualification

Relevant Bachelor degree
Desirable: a postgraduate or other professional qualification in information management.


Experience in conducting market related research using a wide variety of business information sources. Knowledge of databases such as Factiva, Eikon, Orbis and Zephyr, etc. is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

Knowledge of, and interest in, emerging market economies and related data sources.
Knowledge of the bank’s regions and sectors highly desirable.
Information mining and retrieval skills. Enquiring and analytical mind with ability to assimilate facts quickly and effectively.
Knowledge of market data and other information sources. Ability to exercise judgment and analytical skills gained through experience and based on knowledge of information sources.
Excellent time management and ability to multi-task under pressure. Ability to operate in an environment with continuously changing priorities, remain calm under pressure and finalise work quickly and accurately.
Team player with good interpersonal and communication skills. Highly literate with excellent writing skills.
Fluency in other languages desirable, particularly central and eastern European, French or Arabic.
