Sr. Manager, Software Development Manager

Amazon People Technology group is expanding in Dublin, Ireland and we're looking for a Sr Manager who will also act as our site leader for the organization. The Time and Attendance team has an expanding footprint with our Europe stakeholders. Our ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, relishes working with large transactional volumes , enjoys the challenge of highly complex business contexts (that are typically being defined in real-time), and, above all else, is a passionate builder of talent and teams.

In this role you will be responsible for leading teams of software development managers to enhance a variety of Time and Attendance systems across Europe and build towards a strategic future plan to streamline our footprint.You must be willing to insist on the highest standards for quality, controllership, maintainability, performance and customer service. You will evolve the teams’ best practices and develop a level of engineering excellence in the packaged software domain that is uncommon. You will own the goals and roadmap of the our Europe strategy. Your major customers are Human Resources organizations but you also must deliver what Amazon’s business lines need as they evolve and expand. You will demonstrate strong leadership as you control your own destiny in Amazon's ownership oriented culture.

As a leader on this team, you will influence and drive architectural and design choices, invent new features, develop distributed services, and build a scalable, adaptable platform for our people and financial data. We have a team culture that encourages innovation and we expect engineers and management alike to take a high level of ownership for the product vision, technical architecture and project delivery. Successful candidates will be high-bandwidth leaders who can cut through the noise, simplify relentlessly, deliver results, and build great teams around themselves.
In this role, you will hire and lead a world-class software engineering team responsible for rethinking the assumptions behind how workforce management is done in a corporate setting. You will draw from your deep and broad technical expertise to hire and mentor engineers, complete hands-on technical work and provide leadership on complex technical issues. You will manage and be responsible for delivering some of our most strategic technical projects at the cutting edge of scale and with a significant bottom-line impact on our business and competitive position.

A successful candidate will bring deep technical and data management expertise, strong business acumen and judgment, ability to define visionary, ground breaking products, ability to hire and lead a team, desire to have an industry wide impact and ability to work within a fast moving environment in a large company to rapidly deliver services that have a broad business impact.

· 10+ years of experience managing a team of at least 50 data and/or software engineers
· Track record of building and delivering mission critical, 24x7 production systems
· Deep understanding of engineering best practices, in both packaged, BI, and custom software realms
· Deep understanding of enterprise systems and data integration
· Deep understanding of agile project management methodologies
· Understanding of financial processes and accounting principals
· Experience automating back office operations
· Experience writing production code
· Bachelors degree in a technical field or equivalent experience, MBA or advanced degree preferred
· Experience managing other technical managers
· Experience with global technology implementation efforts and rollouts
· Experience with software quality assurance
· Experience managing operations teams
