About the Business Line Environment
Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.

Job Summary
We require a very experienced Geotechnical Engineer at Technical Director level to play a key role in delivery of detailed design for major high profile ground engineering infrastructure projects. We are looking for an ambitious team player who has a passion for delivery of large and complex projects and developing innovative, cost effective and buildable solutions in an environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding.

Our Birmingham team supports internal and external clients on projects in many sectors, but predominantly in rail, road, nuclear and property. In particular our team works closely with the AECOM tunneling team on both regional projects and national infrastructure projects such as Crossrail.

We have an impressive portfolio of major national and international infrastructure projects. A selection of our current and recent projects includes:
Detailed design and construction support for the new Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Station advanced ground works.
Design of the central section of the Thames Tideway Tunnel.
Earthworks and Slope Remediation Schemes for Network Rail and maintenance contractors on the East Coast Main Line.
Detailed design of the Mersey Gateway Crossing scheme.
Multi-million pound regeneration of Brent Cross, including highway, local waterway and bridge design.
Design of the 18km long Stockholm Bypass rock tunneling.
Lead Designer for Lyme Regis Environmental Improvements Phase IV.
Job Responsibilities:
Lead a geotechnical design team to deliver services to a high level of technical quality and to programme and budget.
Coordination and management of projects resources (most likely that our design team will comprise staff from several UK offices) and activities in accordance with the Project Execution Plan to ensure timely delivery.
Work closely with our clients’ team and demonstrate strong behavioural competencies with respect to client care, collaborative working, responsibility and independent decision making.

Minimum Requirements
Proven track record in leadership of ground engineering design teams and management of design delivery and ground related risks in a design and build environment.
Possess strong problem solving and inter-personal skills.
Demonstrates high level of accountability and independent decision making.
Works closely and collaboratively with colleagues, client and delivery partners.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to write a clear and concise technical report is essential.
Strong analytical capabilities and proficient in the use of relevant design software. Experience in numerical modelling using Plaxis and similar software would be advantageous.
In depth knowledge of a wide variety of UK ground conditions but particularly those of Central England.
Willing to travel to other offices and sites within the UK and to occasionally undertake short assignments overseas.
Valid UK driving licence is essential.

Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a Chartered Engineer, preferably holding a first degree in Civil Engineering although candidates with an Engineering Geology or similar background will be considered.
