Hampshire, United Kingdom

We deliver creative solutions for building projects for industry, government, commercial and leisure sectors. Our building engineering specialists have expertise in structural and building services engineering, fire engineering, acoustics, facades and seismic design. We embed sustainability principles in every design.

Job Summary

AECOM's Advanced Technology Team are looking for a Principal Structural Engineering Analyst to join their busy Basingstoke office. Our business is in numerical modelling of structural and structural mechanical problems in order to understand a problem and to either develop a solution or provide support to clients in developing solutions to problems.

Our work involves the modelling of loading and the response of structures or components. The techniques employed bring value to situations where there is unusual loading, structural form or material when conventional codes of practice do not fully describe the problem. We regularly consider seismic effects, undertake stress analysis and investigate the dynamic effects due to blast or impact.

Members of our team have wide ranging experience and we deliver to clients across the nuclear, transportation, commercial and oil and gas industries.

The Principal Structural Engineering Analyst will lead the delivery of projects incorporating a significant quantity of finite element or computational fluid dynamics analysis in order to bring benefits to our clients

Undertake structural design of complex/unusual structures using current British Standards and Eurocodes

Consider the wider engineering issues related to the analyses being undertaken

Contribute to the development of the team by continually developing new skills

Have the necessary background, along with the desire to be a subject matter expert and point of specialist knowledge on an engineering subject within the company

Contribute to the broad range of technical skills that Advanced Structures team possess

Ability to communicate in the English language, both written and verbal, with an excellent ability to explain complex engineering principals in a manner which can be understood by a non-specialist

Able to decide on the level of reliance and accuracy to attach to a variety of results obtained from finite element analysis and to interpret results into practical engineering solutions

Demonstrable track record in the delivery of projects for clients, or the ability to demonstrate significant contribution towards project delivery

Able to work on a range of projects simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in an appropriate Civil or Structural engineering discipline, ideally with a depth of study in finite element, finite difference, CFD methods or seismic or dynamic analysis or similar subjects
