Job Summary

AECOM is currently looking for a Consultant Ecologist to join our team in the NW, the position is flexible and can be based out of our Manchester, Liverpool or Altrincham offices.

The individuals we are looking for will be team players with a strong aptitude for hard work, client care, project delivery and development of innovative, cost effective solutions in a working environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding.

The roles will involve:

Supporting the continued development and expansion in the technical capability and reach of the North Wales and North West England regional ecology team;

Opportunity to work on high profile, challenging and innovative projects involving terrestrial, freshwater and marine habitats and species; and

Supporting the selling and delivery of specialist ecological services to major clients across the full range of ecological services including strategic planning, specialist ecological surveys, ecological impact assessment, options appraisal and provision of robust, proportionate ecological advice on biodiversity mitigation, offsetting and habitat enhancement.

This will include:

Assisting with winning of a wide range of ecological project work;
Supporting liaison with project managers and clients on the delivery of ecological requirements within multi-disciplinary tenders and projects;
Performing the role of an Ecological Clerk of Works on construction projects;
Assisting with managing the technical and financial performance of ecological projects to meet budgets and deadlines
Compliance with internal business management procedures, including in relation to health and safety and technical quality of all advice and outputs; and
Undertaking other tasks which add value to the development of the ecology team or support wider environmental business goals, as required.

Minimum Requirements

Proactive and careful approach to Health and Safety, including first aid training certificate;
etailed knowledge of UK and EC wildlife legislation and policy, as well as Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA);
Professional, organised and thorough approach to work which demonstrates an attention to detail;
Strong and versatile problem solving and inter-personal skills, including motivating others;
Proven ability to manage own time and work closely and collaboratively within a team or alone to tight deadlines;
Possess, or able to obtain, appropriate security clearances;
Experience of ecological watching briefs and Ecology Clerk of Work;
Familiarity with project management procedures and protocols, including the checking and approval of proposals and project outputs;
Electronic data capture, analysis and presentation;
Willing to travel to offices and sites within the UK and potentially internationally when required by work demand;
A track record in, or aspirations for, continuing professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

To include at least some of the following:
Proactive and careful approach to Health and Safety, including first aid training certificate;
Recognised degree in a biological, science or related discipline – a relevant post graduate qualification in the one of these would be advantageous;
Full Member of CIEEM or similar professional body; or eligible to qualify for this status;
Chartered with a professional accreditation/ registration body;
Holder of relevant protected species survey (and mitigation licences), or ability and willingness to work towards holding such licences;
Licensed to drive a vehicle in the UK.
