Associate Director - Highways

Our Altrincham based Strategic Highways team currently has vacancies for Associate Director to support our growth which is underpinned by major highway project opportunities locally, nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will take responsibility in all aspects of highway design to work on local, national and international schemes. We require people who have gained team management skills who will provide the necessary highways technical experience and mentoring to other team members. The successful candidates will join AECOM’s established highways business which continues to expand following several major project wins.

Significant schemes which have been delivered by our experienced highways business include the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road, Manchester Metrolink Extensions 3A and 3B, New Tyne Crossing and Qatar Contract 2.

Currently engaged on a number of interesting and challenging projects both locally and nationally there are a number of opportunities for the candidates to be involved in the range of work secured and anticipated. Recent and current projects in the UK include Smart Motorways Programme (SMP) Package 5 – M62 J10-12 & M6 J21a-26, HS2, Manchester Metrolink Trafford Park extension, A494/A55/A494 Deeside Corridor (KS2), Menai Crossing (KS2). Our services offered to our clients include the full range and scope of highways work from inception to completion across all the key discipline areas. We work on schemes from feasibility stage through the development phase and planning and DCO process, preliminary design, detailed design and site supervision.

Job responsibilities

Provide technical leadership for the Highways team and lead by example
Fulfil the role of technical lead, and/or project manager
Effectively and efficiently undertake Project and team activities, including commercial, managerial and technical aspects.
Contribute to the development and improvement of technical standards and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
Ensure Safety Health and Environment procedures are implemented
Generate and maintain good Client relations;
Resolve Client and project issues;
Review the project against company processes and client requirements;
Where appropriate, monitor the performance of the team, to ensure that the project outputs are subject to appropriate scrutiny and verification; Establishing strong working relationships with other internal teams within AECOM
Take an active role in work winning, supporting business development activities including the development of Client relationships

The successful candidate will be a Chartered/Incorporated Engineer (or be close to achieving such accreditation) with proven design and project management experience, delivering quality products to strict financial and programme targets. They will preferably have experience of working collaboratively as part of a team developing a range of major highway projects for Highways England’s or Highway Authority schemes.

As well as the above the chosen candidate will also have the following:

A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills.
Excellent technical and communication skills along with experience of managing and undertaking a range of highway engineering related projects.
Ability to demonstrate experience or understanding of Health and Safety including CDM responsibilities
Extensive working knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges
Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment, operating across a matrix of projects.
Experience of working with HE processes (i.e. Project Control Framework and Collaborative Delivery Framework) desirable
Experience of working in the Design and Build sector particularly preparing tenders for contractors.
A flexible approach to supporting project and business development activities across wider AECOM geographies, for example in Mainland Europe, Russia, Middle East and Africa
