NATS and Thales have entered into a partnership to form AQUILA ATMS which was awarded the Project MARSHALL contract from the Ministry of Defence (MOD). Together, we are deploying our expert knowledge to improve military air traffic management in the UK. It’s a transformational project which will deliver ongoing service efficiency savings for UK military terminal air traffic services throughout the 22 year life of the programme.

The NATS and Thales deliverables as part of Project MARSHALL call for the provision of a Project Manager with experience in ATM system installations to work as part of transition team through the life of the Programme (to April 2021)

The purpose of this role is to provide Project Management to ensure the successful delivery of the project within the Central Region and more specifically at the Brize Norton site. It requires an effective Project Manager who is a capable of managing a number of stakeholders both internally within Thales and Nats along within the MoD. The Project Manager will instill effective and efficient management of the delivery, acceptance and operational transition of the Technical Services into the MOD sites.

Key Responsibilities:

Delivery of project activity to the customer in accordance with all relevant areas of the MAPS Management System meets the requirements of all appropriate regulations, including the applicable Safety Management System and Health and Safety legislation.
Actively promoting a culture of safety awareness, ensuring competent people are assigned to safety case work and for ensuring that safety cases for individual projects are completed and signed-off.
The negotiation and contract let of all suppliers' contracts associated with your Project(s) with the support of personnel from other MAPS departments e.g. Commercial, Supply Chain and Legal.
Providing a point of contact for assigned location.
Leading the delivery of change requests within their assigned area, to cost & schedule with Marshall Project processes.
Implementing and actioning key improvement activities from the Project Management Capability Improvement Roadmap to develop and optimise PM processes by communicating and driving through changes in an agreed prioritised order.
Supporting the Project Management Team in developing good PM practice, including key project management focal points.
The role involves significant client liaison in the UK and also potentially overseas. This includes up to Squadron Leader and director level, building customer confidence and managing the interface between client and installation teams.

Experience, Qualifications & Skills

Able to demonstrate strong leadership with extensive experience in a management role, preferable in the area of Project and Programme management.
Experience, knowledge and track record of delivering of complex integration projects. Experience or knowledge of Air Traffic Management is desirable.
Experience and proven track record of building strong commercial relationships with customers and suppliers.
Competently demonstrate working knowledge of Project Management processes and methodologies.
Good interpersonal skills and judgement required for dealing with both internal and client relationships to develop strong working relations.
Accountable for liaising with the relevant parties to achieve both tactical and strategic objectives for their projects.
A good understanding of the commercial aspects of providing projects against fixed price contracts.
Able to demonstrate a sound understanding of business, finance and personnel management techniques.
Ability to chair and contribute to meetings thereby ensures the effective utilisation of resources and progress towards objectives.
The ability to communicate, negotiate and influence effectively at all levels. Due to the size and complexity of the projects the jobholder is required to interface with many individuals that are at senior management levels and to communicate both verbally and in writing across all disciplines.
