Railway Systems Design Manager

Our UK based infrastructure advisory team undertakes a wide range of transport work. We have new opportunities within the team to add depth and capacity to our market offering. Our client range is diverse and includes governmental and private asset owners and operators, and infrastructure construction organisations.

We provide expertise in:

• Strategic and tactical asset management
• Transport investment and business case
• Data analytics
• Guidance, standards and specifications development
• Procurement and performance requirements
• Risk and Resilience
• Strategic safety policy and advice
• Technology and trials
• Transport policy and strategy

Location - Leeds/ Birmingham / London

Our staff are multi-disciplinary with expertise in science, commercial, engineering, statistics, and procurement. Consequently, we have the capability, expertise and mind set to develop solutions applicable to a wide range of problems. We are looking to strengthen our advisory team with key recruits to fulfill the following responsibilites:


• Design and deliver sustainable and inspiring improvements to people, process and technical elements of our clients businesses.

• Contribute to client accounts and business development activity working with clients to understand their needs and form compelling proposals for consultancy services

• Develop and build strong client relationships and command the confidence of others, internally and externally.

• Manage projects, commercials and multidisciplinary teams.

• Design and delivery advisory service offerings.

• Continually seek to broaden knowledge and contact base, including awareness of broader business, economic and political environment.

Projects will be allocated to you on a regular basis for varying lengths of time, which provides a diverse working environment. You will have an opportunity to work on projects all over the world, while learning from our experienced team.

We encourage our staff to demonstrate drive and motivation, a willingness to learn about the transport advisory sector, and a desire to effectively deliver an excellent service to our clients. As such, we are looking for the following qualifications, skills and behaviours:


• Degree ideally in an engineering, transport, scientific or economic related discipline
• Post graduates welcomed

Skills and Experience

• Minimum 1 year experience working with transport oriented clients (e.g. DfT, Highways England, Network Rail, London Underground, TfL, Office of Rail Regulation, RSSB, local authorities), or in a rrelevant esearch establishment (for example a university).
• Experience of providing engineering / technical management consultancy / research advice to such clients.
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Ability to develop novel solutions and exhibit innovative thinking.
• Knowledge of the key issues and opportunities facing transportation in the UK
• Demonstrable discipline areas of interest are: asset management (PAS55 equivalent) including assessment of highways and rail renewal programmes; managed motorways expertise; lean construction; safety and simulations; procurement, transport operations; risk analysis; statistical analysis; ticketing and franchise advice; technology; financial modelling

• Be planned and organised in your approach to work and meeting deadlines
• Enthusiasm for a career, underpinned through a knowledge and understanding of the transport sector and work
• Demonstrate a creative approach to problem solving
• The aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive
• Be flexible to the needs of the business, and in changes to project plans
• Be dedicated to the delivery of projects, and the development of the team and the business as a whole
