Controls Engineer - Manufacturing

Role Purpose
Research, develop, design and integrate PC and PLC controllers and drive systems for the purpose of supporting manufacturing and assembly operations.

Key Responsibilities
Troubleshoot issues involving controls programs.

Make program modifications, as needed, for efficient operation of plant machinery.

Control "PG" and laptop devices that are necessary for troubleshooting equipment.

Formulate action plans, when needed, to ensure resolution of major issues.

Work in partnership with vendors and GKN manufacturing engineers to design and develop effective automated PLC control and drive systems to support production requirements and goals.

Make recommendations for improvements to systems, as needed.

Provide direction and train maintenance personnel in corrective maintenance and installation of electronic equipment.

Establish protocols and be responsible for system access, backups and data recovery.

Establish and maintain comprehensive inventory of all machine software packages within the scope of responsibility. Ensure that software packages are obtained and installed as needed.

Act as the GKN representative to insure that all newly purchased machines have all necessary software, licenses and back-up programs. Screen programs to ensure that English language conversions have been completed, and work with machine supplier to correct any issues.

Contact vendor to resolve problems related to controls issues.

Partner with IT Department to ensure line servers are maintained and updated, as needed.

Attend production briefs when needed.

Maintain Lockout/Tagout, CPR First Aid, Confined Space Entry, and other safety related certifications.

Endure strict adherence to OSHA, ISO-TS 16949, ISO 14001 and other standards.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills
REQUIRED: High School Diploma

2 year degree in Electrical/Computer engineering or related
field; Siemens S7

PREFERRED: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from accredited college
university

GENERAL: Ability to understand logic control (relay & PLC) and how to manipulate the logic to repair problems. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks and frequency distributions, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
