Based in the Midlands, our multi-discipline Building Engineering group continues to win major pieces of work particularly in the industrial, education and commercial sectors. Key projects over the last few years have included:

Role

Working very closely with colleagues and clients, you will be responsible for interpreting the client brief and developing designs at all stages from scheme through to detailed design. Acting independently to investigate solutions, you will explore options and work closely with peers to develop and communicate design solutions.

As well as the production of design information, a key part of role will be managing and supervising colleagues in the production and refinement of designs to ensure that we produce the highest quality product for our clients. You will be responsible to managing and monitoring resources to deliver the agreed commercial performance of your projects.

You will be an inquisitive and creative, solution-orientated yet collaborative individual who gives their all to ensure the client is happy and the solution is both high-quality and practical. You will be accountable to the project manager / project director for day-to-day delivery and you will be provided with formal and informal support to develop your skills. You will liaise with other disciplines within the regional office and elsewhere within Arup. You may be required to work away from your normal office from time to time.

Requirements and skills

Essential Skills and Knowledge

•Experienced in leading the delivery of Electrical designs for medium to large projects.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Proven record in developing concept and scheme designs.
•Experienced in the production of design notes, reports and general correspondence.
•Experienced in supervising less experienced engineers and technicians.
•Experienced in undertaking site inspections and site surveys.
•Ability to communicate technical issues to co-professionals, contractors and clients.
•Ability to communicate with other professionals on a generalist as well as a specialist basis.
•Ability to develop solutions that satisfy client requirements.
•Proven success of working in a team environment.
•Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
•Ability to work on, and respond to priorities across multiple projects.
•Excellent understanding of Electrical Low Voltage, and Extra Low Voltage Systems. Medium Voltage experience preferred.
•Experienced in the use of Amtech, Dialux and similar specialist design software.
•Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office range of software.

Qualifications

•Bachelor Degree in Building Services, Electrical Engineering or similar with Masters
Degree preferred.
•Professionally Qualified with the IET or CIBSE.
•Extensive experience within building services consultancy.

Desirable skills and knowledge

•Experience of Revit MEP is preferable.
•Experience of Carbon Modeling software such as IES or TAS.
•A range of sector experience.
•Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
•Knowledge of or experience of business development.
•Understanding of commercial realities and business needs.
•Developing leadership skills.
