About the Business Line Environment
Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.

Job Summary
Our Remediation Services team in Chesterfield, Derbyshire is currently looking to recruit an Assistant Environmental Engineer with experience in the environmental engineering aspects of brownfield land investigation, risk assessment and remediation. The successful candidate will be involved in remediation optioneering and design of remedial schemes for soil and water contamination, and will have some involvement in the geotechnical engineering aspects of land remediation.

Our clients are from the private and public sector and our leading UK clients include Homes and Communities Agency, The Coal Authority, BP, Dow Chemicals, the Environment Agency, Shell, Ineos, National Grid, Scottish and Southern Energy, Siemens, Associated British Foods, Defence Estates, HS2 limited and numerous Local Authorities, as well as leading contractors and developers.

We have an impressive portfolio of major national and international infrastructure projects. A selection of our current and recent projects includes:
Dow Chemicals: remediation of ground and groundwater contamination at active and closed installations .
SSE: investigation of ground conditions for power station site reclamation and redevelopment, Yorkshire
National Grid: investigations and risk assessments for the proposed Viking Interconnector power pipeline, SE England
The Environment Agency: UK wide surveys and risk assessments to inform national policy on the use of various materials in improving agricultural land.
HS2 Limited: desk based assessment of mining legacy hazards and risks, West Midlands to Leeds

Job Responsibilities:

The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:
Produce phase 1 desk studies containing qualitative risk assessment for human health and the water environment, with the necessary level of detail as required providing a basis for design of ground investigations;
With senior support, design, specify and detail intrusive site investigations at a range of scales from small 1 Ha sites up to major infrastructure projects;
Supervise intrusive investigations on site, reporting to an office-based project manager
Reporting to the team leader you will also interface directly with other team members, from graduate to Directors and with other internal design teams
You will have strong development skills and have the potential to develop and manage the work of others if and when required.
Have the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance to less-experienced junior staff.
Ability to work collaboratively and iteratively within a multi-disciplinary design team.

Minimum Requirements
Experience within a professional practice
Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
Experience of some or all of the following is also advantageous: gINT or HoleBASE , ProjectWise, CLEA, EA RTM (P20), ConSim

Preferred Qualifications
You will have obtained BSc or B.Eng and be qualified to at least Masters level (MSc, M.Sci, M.Eng) in earth science, engineering geology, environmental geology, environmental engineering or environmental pollution control or a related subject. You will be approaching or will have recently achieved chartered status (C.Geol, C.Sci, C.Env or C.Eng are the preferred options).
