Assistant Project Manager

THALES is delivering an Automatic Train Control (ATC) system for four of London Underground’s Sub Surface Rail (SSR) lines: District, Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City. The programme has a five year duration and is a comprehensive solution including management, design, development, manufacturing, supply, delivery, construction, installation, integration, testing, commissioning and migration. THALES UK are working in collaboration with the client and our colleagues in Canada and India to deliver this project.
We are looking to recruit an Assistant Project Manager to assist to join our existing System Solution Team and assist in Project Managing the deliverables that are vital in supporting installation and testing that is already in progress. This will provide a considerable contribution to the 4LM project through financial responsibility, overall change control, commercial awareness and stakeholder management across this flagship, multi-national programme.

The role of Assistant Project Manager (APM) is an excellent, development opportunity for an ambitious individual. The role will be based in our offices in Canary Wharf (London) until October 2017 and then Stratford for the duration.

Main Duties:-
Facilitate Project Execution, ensuring all aspects of programme governance are in place:Budget management – margin and revenue maintained
Planning – Delivery schedule maintained
Quality – Metrics available demonstrating adherence to Quality plan
Ensure all assigned work is completed to schedule, to budget (agreed hours) and to quality
Ensure all changes are managed through the Compensation Event (CE) process including any access impacts
Populate weekly dashboard with status KPI data in cooperation with management and the client as required
Manage Weekly Progress meeting and participate in the Progress Meeting with client
Assist in the management of sub-contractors, ensuring flow through of customer requirements and supplier performance
Ensure rework cycles are minimised and lessons learnt deployed
Identify continuous improvement opportunities and manage the change as appropriate
Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to drive and embed the Installation focused on cost, quality and timely delivery with maximum utilisation of engineering time or weekend closures.
Ensure all reporting requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner
Assist in the management all project stakeholders; ensuring strong communications are established and maintained
Ensure appropriate Project Governance
Skills & Attributes
Experience of Project Management within Transportation (Rail) or a transferable project environment (Ex-Military, Civil Engineering)
Experience of working on site with clients on a regular basis
A positive attitude combined with strong interpersonal and motivational skills
A strong communicator
Ability to embrace and encourage change
Customer focused balanced with recognising the need for governance
Ability to establish and meet deadlines
Able to multi task and prioritise Strong planning and delivery skills
Commercial/financial/business acumen
Willingness to work in a collaborative environment
Prince/APM qualified
Engineering or Business Degree
Knowledge of a range of transportation solutions (e.g. Train control, communication and safety systems)
Full project lifecycle management (from capture & qualification to winning strategies)
Knowledge of commercial management, best practice supply chain
