Surveillance System Engineer

Aquila Air Traffic Management Services is the chosen provider to safely deliver Air Traffic Services including Engineering Service Delivery to the UK Ministry of Defence through a transformational project named Project Marshall. Project Marshall is a major Air Traffic Management (ATM) delivery programme which will deliver a capability upgrade providing the MOD with ATM Services for a period of 22 years.

Purpose of the Role:
We are currently looking to expand our Engineering team and are looking to recruit a versatile Systems Engineer. Working as part of a multi-disciplined team, the Systems Engineer, will be involved in all aspects of Service Delivery including safety and through life management of ATM assets (Navigational Aids, Surveillance, Communications and Information systems), delivery of new assets into service, development of change proposals, post design services and provision of technical advice.

Key Accountabilities

Support the Technical Service Manger (TSM) and Service Design Authority in discharging their Safety responsibilities for the Technical Services and associated equipment:
Assurance of Technical Service and Equipment Safety cases.
Support the Authority led Safety Case Reviews.
Assist in the investigation and safety assessment of incidents.
Equipment performance monitoring to maintain safety.
Through Life Management for each equipment within the Technical Services portfolio, including:
Assist in the management of equipment obsolescence, and development/update of Equipment Replacement plans.
Capture and provision of reliability data to support the maintenance of availability and spares models.
Provide support for delivery into service of new Technical Services and equipment, including:
Input and support to the generation of requirements specifications.
Participate in the Acceptance and Commissioning Process of delivered assets into service from the asset delivery teams, including:
Provide input to system, sub-system and equipment level Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRMs) to assure that they define appropriate verification methods and capture suitable acceptance evidence for all requirements.
Perform or support test and Engineering Validation activities.
Capture and document acceptance arguments.
Verify that the production documentation is ready for service.
Develop and publish Support Policy Statements and Maintenance Documentation.
Support the initial provisioning of spares and test equipment.
Support the Aquila Change Management Process, including:
Input to Engineering Submissions for Change Proposals, including formalising the change description, requirements, architectural design and plans.
Support for the generation of estimated costs for proposed changes.
Impact assessment of change.
Provision of Post Design Services, including review and update of maintenance documentation, support for fault investigations and assessment of OEM modification proposals and software update proposals.
Provision of Technical Advice.
Support the supply chain in managing the 4th line and CLS contracts.
Support the Risk Management process, including risk identification and mitigation.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Personal Qualities

Degree in Engineering discipline, equivalent relevant professional qualification or relevant experience gained within an ATM engineering environment.
Relevant System Engineering experience, preferably within an ATM or Aerospace environment. Experience and knowledge of Navigational Aids, Surveillance, Communications and (ATM) Information systems is desirable.
Experience and knowledge of Defence and Civil standards and regulations relevant to an ATM environment is desirable.
Experience of supporting military assets in service, preferably within an ATM environment is desirable.
Relevant experience of high-integrity real-time systems within large scale, multi-disciplined projects and practical experience of delivering equipment into service, including verification and acceptance.
Knowledge of System Engineering processes and practices.
Strong focus on delivery.
Innovative in defining solutions and optimising processes and systems.
Strong customer focus and dedication to team work and exceptional standards of technical delivery.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The ability to work proactively, within a defined framework, with a minimum of direct supervision highly motivated in the discharge of responsibilities and accountabilities.
