About the Business Line Environment
Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.

Job Summary Due to our continuing success and strong order book, we are looking to expand and strengthen our Southern England regional ecology team by employing additional aquatic ecologist at Consultant level. This vacancy form part of the strategic expansion of the UK and Ireland ecology team which currently comprises over 100 professional ecologists and operates as a forward looking, integrated, collaborative “can do” single business.

The individuals we are looking for will be team players with a strong aptitude for hard work, client care, project delivery and development of innovative, cost effective solutions in a working environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding.
The roles will involve:
Supporting the continued development and expansion in the technical capability and reach of the Southern England regional aquatic ecology team principally as fish survey lead;

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The role holders will deliver ecological consultancy and advisory services to both internal and external clients to a high level of technical quality and to programme and budget. They must have strong behavioural competencies with respect to client care, collaborative working, personal responsibility, decision making and team work.

The role holders will need to be equally comfortable working on small or major projects, contributing positively to the successful delivery of projects, notably in the environment, power, infrastructure, renewable and industrial sectors.

This will include:
Working as part of the existing network of AECOM ecologists within integrated teams on challenging multi-disciplinary projects, mostly in Southern England;
Assisting with winning of a wide range of aquatic ecological project work;
Supporting liaison with project managers and clients on the delivery of aquatic ecological requirements within multi-disciplinary tenders and projects;
Organising and carrying out desk studies and field based surveys, including for freshwater, estuarine and coastal habitats and species;
Undertaking the analysis, evaluation, interpretation and presentation of ecological data, including through production of Ecological Impacts Assessments and design of mitigation strategies;

Minimum Requirements The role will be based AECOM office in Basingstoke in Southern England. Whilst there will be opportunity to work from other offices on occasion the successful role holders will be expected to live locally or be prepared to relocate close to the office in which they are based. Essential requirements for the successful candidates are:
Proactive and careful approach to Health and Safety, including first aid training certificate;
Technical and professional proficiency with a demonstrable history of successfully working in aquatic ecology consultancy or regulatory body including within multi-disciplinary teams and completion of projects to a high standard, on time and within budgets;

Preferred Qualifications To include at least some of the following:
Proactive and careful approach to Health and Safety, including first aid training certificate;
Recognised degree in a biological, science or related discipline – a relevant post graduate qualification in the one of these would be advantageous;
