Role Purpose
Chief Manufacturing Engineer (CME) is the technical leader for Manufacturing Engineering and is responsible for the manufacturing definition and ME related activities within the program / value stream through its lifecycle. The CME leads the multi-functional Manufacturing Engineering (ME) team that is deployed into the program / values stream and acts as the primary representative for ME at all program / technical reviews & externally (with customer & suppliers). Will ensure the manufacturing system meets stakeholder requirements including; technical compliance; adherence to ME processes and standards and compliance business case (including quality; delivery and cost).
Key Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

·Delivery of a manufacturing system that fulfils all stakeholder requirements including;

o Quality, Health & Safety, design, producibility, business case etc.

·Provides functional support of engineers who are responsible for:

o Manufacturing Engineering during NPI and serial production

o Ensure robust process selection, implementation & control

o Manage and uphold stakeholder requirements

·Responsible for leading and developing the Manufacturing Engineering function including resource management.

·Responsible for functional process and policy definition related to how Manufacturing Engineering departments operate and interact internally as well as with other business functions.

·Responsible for Manufacturing Engineering systems support and administration

·Understands and can help derive associated measures for:

o Functional deployment matrix

o Integrated product teams

o Skills matrix generation, deployment and management

o Product safety

o Quality (including right first time measures)

o Delivery (completion of the M.E. related activities in line with the agreed schedule)

o Cost (NRC & RC)

·Product development including;

o Selection of capable manufacturing processes

o Validating the capability of the process and/or equipment

§ Including that all process / test requirements, relating to the manufacturing system, are suitably addressed

o Introduction of new technology in line with the Program / Value Stream requirements

o Supporting the Make v Buy & subsequent supplier selection process

·Ensure adherence to all applicable Quality processes and procedures including;

o All regulatory laws and guidelines are complied with

o Customer requirements (where mandated)

o Export Control and ITAR requirements

o Ensuring the successful transition of a program from one lifecycle gate to the next

·Acting as the M.E. lead with;

o The Program Management / Value Stream leaders

o Other internal disciplines

o The customer

o The nominated supply chain

Support the Design Chief Engineers and Program Chief Engineers on their technical reviews (internal & external) as required
Qualifications / Experience / Skills

Required Qualifications:

·Bachelor Degree in Aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, manfuacturing enginering or similar field.

·10+ years’ practical experience in aerospace manufacturing or similar environment including technical/lead experience.

·5+ years’ composite manufacturing experience.

·Experience in successful people/team management.

·Understanding of aerospace industry standards such as AS9100, National Aerospace Standards, SAE, US mil-standards, ISO9001, Nadcap, etc.

·Experience with OEM requirements.

·Must be a U.S. Person due to export compliance.

·Must be able to travel up to 10%.

Additional Qualifications:

·Related industry graduate or MBA preferred.

·Certification as a Lean / 6σ practitioner (greenbelt as minimum) and demonstrated application of Continuous Improvement / Lean tools and techniques with proven results preferred.

·15-20 years’ practical experience/expertise in composite manufacturing preferred.

·Experience working with diverse skill sets and teams to accomplish results.

·Thorough working knowledge of the various manufacturing production systems such as SIOP, MES, MRB, Planning, and QMS preferred.

·Good interpersonal team working skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.

·Has the ability to work successfully within a matrix managed business, able to influence without direct authority.

·Proactive in regard to new developments of expertise.

·Self-motivated, resourceful, strong minded and committed.

·Innovative toward all aspects of the job.

·Flexible and capable of working in a complex environment.

·Good reporting and communication skills on project status and progress.

·Capable of interfacing professionally with customers and suppliers.
