Asset Manager

The Sensors Support Optimisation Programme (SSOP) is a 10-year availability contract placed by the UK Ministry of Defence on THALES UK for support services to RN Sonar, Electronic Surveillance Equipment, and Visual Systems. The contract is managed through an enterprise arrangement where the Thales Project Office is co- located with the customer within MOD Abbey Wood. Delivery is undertaken via a number of key Thales sites located throughout the UK, with the addition of a permanent Thales presence at the 3 main RN Naval Bases within the UK. SSOP is a 24/7 worldwide support contract with a pedigree dating back to 2003, focussed on delivering VFM for the customer whilst improving overall contract performance through optimisation.
Recent changes within the Project Office organisation require the recruitment of an Asset Manager to manage systems and services across large assets on behalf of the MOD. This is an exciting yet challenging opportunity to take control of logistics and service delivery across a number of sites, UK wide and the role will involve process improvement and management of subcontractors and complex customers
The successful candidate will be an ambitious, highly motivated individual with MOD experience and an ambition to progress into a results lead, leadership role.
This is a full time, permanent position, based in Bristol at MOD Abbey Wood with frequent travel across customer sites in the UK and overseas.

Key responsibilities

-Responsible for compliance to the master production schedule in terms of quality, cost and delivery.
- The single point of contact for all matters concerning all assets under the MOD contract
- Review and update annually all processes and procedures used for asset control and associated documentation
- Maintain and manage all asset tracking data bases and spread sheets.
- Provide Logistic and Asset tracking inputs to monthly and annual reports
- Pro-actively manage, in conjunction with the Support Managers, the optimisation of stock levels.
- Ensure that the Asset Management requirements under the contract are being delivered effectively across all Work Packages, taking action and escalating issues wherever necessary.
- Lead Thales’ Asset Audits, conducted by the customer at each Work Package Site.
- Co-ordinate and control annual audits of assets at sub-contractors premises.
- Be the Thales lead for all customer asset meetings, e.g, Asset dashboard, Logistics meetings etc.
- Proactively review the effectiveness and efficiency of the Asset Management processes and recommend improvements as part of a continuous improvement approach
- Ensure that lessons learned as a result of e.g. audits, process reviews and engagement activities are captured and that mitigations and improvements are identified and implemented to continuously improve Asset Management

Skills and Experience


- Proven Management capability in a support delivery environment.
- Experience of working with UK MOD.
- Familiarity with MOD support policy and Asset Management practices.
- Understanding of UK Naval Support Requirements.
- Appropriate Technical background.
- Good inter-personal skills and ability to engage and motivate others to support the delivery of assets in line with contract requirements.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively at senior levels across Thales and the customer Stakeholder community.
- Ability to present complex Assets data, trends and statistics in a clear and concise way to Thales and Customer stakeholders.
- Ability to build and maintain an excellent working relationship with the MOD UEW Inventory Manager and their Inventory Management Team built on trust.
- Recognised Technical Qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience in UK MOD support environment
- Commercial and Financial Awareness.
