Job Summary

We have an excellent opportunity for an Engineer to join our busy Development Engineering team in St Albans. We specialise in providing a design and advisory service on some of the most exciting land development projects located both in the UK and overseas. We work closely with our teams within the business to provide our Clients with a collaborative response to some of their most challenging projects. This is an ideal opportunity for an individual to become part of a growing team and benefit from a range of engineering challenges.

We are routinely involved in the engineering aspect of masterplanning major development and highway dominated schemes, developing infrastructure strategies and taking these through planning and detailed design to construction. This opportunity would be ideal for a suitably experienced Engineer to further develop their career and assist in the future development of this team.


Work under the direction of the Senior or Principal Engineer.

Assist in the preparation of the technical feasibility/design for development projects in the disciplines of highways, foul and surface water drainage, SuDS, flooding, utilities and earthworks.

Prepare design packages in support of Section 278 and Section 38 highway agreements.

Vertical and horizontal design of road alignments.

As necessary liaise with the project team and represent Development Engineering internally and externally at an appropriate level.

Carry out work in accordance with the project brief and to agreed programme.

Prepare technical reports, specifications, calculations and drawings.

Comply with statutory, project and AECOM-specific health and safety requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Post-graduate experience of infrastructure design projects with a track record of delivery.

Knowledge and experience of some or all of the following disciplines: Highways, Foul Water Drainage, Surface Water Drainage, SuDS, Utilities Co-ordination, Earthworks and Flood Risk Assessment.

Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to liaise directly with our Clients.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of large multi-disciplinary project teams.

Creative thinker who is adaptive to changing project demands and keen to tackle engineering problems.

Experience of liaising with local authorities, water and utility companies, Highway Authorities and other public bodies.

Computer software literate including some or all of the following: MS Word, MS Excel, Microdrainage, AutoCAD and Civil3D.

Commitment to developing technical knowledge and skills.

Preferred Qualifications

MEng, BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering

Aspiration to work towards chartered status, or membership of appropriate institute (MICE or MCIHT).
