Application Engineer

Role Purpose

Responsible for delivering application engineering requirements for customer release of

GKN DL CAPM Phases C & D

Key Responsibilities

 Lead the application engineering tasks for the specific customer platform. (This may involve customer transplant applications in other DL launch sites)

 Review customer requirements/specifications and initiate/conduct feasibility studies

 Lead initial BOM formulation and interface with site CAD groups to prepare the product design package

 Interface with Platform Engineering Manager (PEM) to aid in supporting customer level drawings based of internal design

 Manage all relevant application engineering tasks/activities in accordance with the customer APQP and DL CAPM deliverables (including ‘C0’ through stage ‘C’ and inclusive of stage ‘D’) within the framework of DL’s programme management sign-off system for global applications

 Perform the engineering calculations and make proposals for the assigned DL product. Work with DL product engineering Technical Specialists for DL products not supported by Viper PTE ie. Propshafts, RDM, PTU. Validate and approve the product performance at each stage of development in accordance with the customer and DL specifications for all applications.

 Manage and support the creation and update of the DL product DFMEA and PFMEA

 Lead internal design reviews and the drawing approval for the local customer release in coordination with the program PEM

 Lead supplier design reviews (DFM/DFA) for purchased components

 Lead prototype and pre-production sample builds based on customer orders

 Work with DL sourced manufacturing sites for the specific program and initiate design reviews based on internal product drawings and customer required specifications

 Interface effectively with customer Liaison/Resident engineers supporting the program remotely at the specified customer

 Phase D activities include:

 Lead technical response (approval) for the internal change management process

 Provide technical support in the analysis of solving issues with customer returned components

 Support continuous improvement in conjunction with the specific manufacturing facility supplying parts for the program

 Handle and store data for the program with regard to GKN’s confidentiality

 Support a safe working environment in accordance with GKN Driveline procedures and local/regional legislation

Qualifications / Experience / Skills
Graduation from related departments of Universities
Advanced level of both written and spoken English
