Job Summary

Our geo-environmental team in St Albans is currently looking for a Geo-environmental Engineer / Consultant to support the Remediation Services department in performing contaminated land ground investigation, assessment, reporting and remediation.

We are looking for a confident candidate with a minimum of two year’s field investigation experience including exploratory investigation and management of subcontractors. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the industry and be conversant with the UK regulatory guidance applying to remediation activities such as CLR11.

You will have the willingness and ability to learn new tasks and be a strong team worker who is able to listen to requirements and work well with others.

Our UK Remediation Services group comprises some 200 specialist staff and provides the complete range of services to public and private sector clients from desk studies, site investigations, risk assessments, remediation designs and supervision of remediation on site. The St Albans team has an established track record of successfully delivering brownfield reclamation and development schemes throughout the country, as well as providing support to major national and international infrastructure projects.

Job Responsibilities:

The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the job / project accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:

To work within a team, undertaking desk studies, ground investigations, data analysis, factual and interpretative report writing – in support of development and infrastructure projects throughout the UK.

To ensure that health and safety issues are addressed throughout the life of a project.

To coordinate field service subcontractors and fully supervise ground investigations.

To collect soil and groundwater samples/data during assessment and remedial action activities at sites predominantly in the southeast of England.

To coordinate with laboratories to secure appropriate analysis and in a timetable consistent with project requirements.

To complete exploratory hole logs.

To compile and interpret field and analytical data into accurate and comprehensive conceptual site models.

To learn the AECOM quality management system and ensure its effective implementation.

To assist project managers in developing proposals for ground investigations and remediation projects if appropriate.

Minimum Requirements

More than two years of field investigation experience including exploratory investigation and management of subcontractors

Experience collecting groundwater vapour samples / gas monitoring

Good understanding of field sampling, soil logging and data quality assurance (QA)

Good understanding of contaminated land assessment

Working knowledge of MS Office applications

Familiar with developing and implementing health and safety risk assessments

Strong team worker – able to listen to requirements and work well with others

Attention to detail and a thorough approach to work

Strong communication skills at all levels

Report writing skills in English essential

Willingness and ability to learn new tasks.

Numerate and confident

Experience of some or all of the following would be advantageous: gINT or HoleBASE, CLEA, EA RTM, CAD.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant degree in Geology / Hydrogeology / Contaminated Land / Environmental Engineering / Environmental Science

Full Driving Licence essential
