AECOM offers the opportunity to work on high profile, challenging and innovative projects, alongside a highly competitive benefits package and as part a forward-thinking and successful national Ecology Team. We are looking to appoint an experienced ecologist and technical leader to our team, to support our current project workload and the future growth of our business. Based in one of our Central England offices (Birmingham Nottingham or Chesterfield) This is primarily a technical role, focused on the delivery of challenging projects throughout the UK and also acting as part of a national leadership team driving innovation, standards and technical excellence.

The successful candidate will:
• Have a demonstrable track record of working as an ecological consultant, with particular expertise in ecological impact assessment in accordance with the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) guidelines;
• be an experienced team leader and manager, with a high level of competence in performance management, coaching and mentoring of staff;
• be responsible for managing and/or directing large and complex ecological projects, including co-ordination of bids surveys, reporting and providing advice to clients and colleagues.
• Be experienced and competent in a technical review and approval capacity for ecological work
• be a Full Member of CIEEM, and preferably have achieved Chartered Ecologist (CEcol) or Charted Environmentalist (CEnv)status.

Although the majority of work is in the UK, candidates with appropriate experience and skills may have the opportunity to work overseas from time to time.

The job will entail:
• Major projects (ecology) delivery and leadership
• Part of the leadership team for AECOM ecology at UK&I level
• Technical leadership at UKI level, leading and supporting quality improvements, innovation, training and other aspects of technical excellence in our work
• A strong presence in representing AECOM externally through projects, client management, papers and presentations.
• Working as part of the existing network of AECOM ecologists within the UK;
• Contributing to and implementing a strategy for growth (quality and size) of the ecology business across the UK and Ireland
• Assisting in the winning, delivery and management of ecological/EIA projects;
• Responsibility for technical and financial performance of ecological projects;
• Writing and reviewing Environmental Statement (ES) chapters and other ecological assessments;
• Providing technical review of ecological reports and other deliverables as required;
• Managing and mentoring staff;
• Liaising with clients, project managers and other project stakeholders including statutory bodies;
• Undertaking other tasks to support the wider environmental business, as required.

1. Experienced in leadership relating to the safety, technical and commercial aspects of an ecology business, including line management;
2. Substantive ecology consultancy and related business development experience in UK and Ireland, , including development and implementation of strategies for business growth;
