Quality Engineer - Plant 1

Role Purpose

To be the technical resource for Quality within the Gear Manufacturing Plant. Problem solving expert focused on prevention of the issues through process improvements. Cross Functional Team member to implement the process/product changes following APQP process and in compliance with internal GKN procedures
Key Responsibilities
Lead problem solving team to complete 8D response to customer complaints and internal issues.
Participate in Design Reviews, PFMEA and Conrol Plan development and plan appropriate actions to reduce RPN.
New product and process launch validation through APQP.
Evaluate Process Change Requests and implement the changes through PPAP / PTR.
Conduct process and product audits to ensure compliance to the system and standards.
Understand process variation and take preventive measures.
Manage Product/Process Deviation requests and work with customers for approval.
Participate in Scrap reduction and process improvement projects.
Perform compliance and system effectiveness audits to insure adherence to company policies, procedures and customer requirements.
Identify and eliminate non-standardized work practices and establish alternative procedures for contingency.
Work with Supplier Quality group to resolve supplier related issues to ensure defect free product.
Coordinate PPAPs for outsourcing of the operations, supplier resourcing, internal machine moves, new machine installation, rework processes, etc.
Participate in TS audit and other customer audits.
Evaluate and report progress of team toward established goals and objectives.
Track and Report scrap, customer complaints, non-conforming material found at inspection staions and other defined quality KPIs.
Train associates in both theory and application of quality tools such as statistics,
inspection methods, problem solving, process analysis and improvement.
Keep abreast of new developments and techniques within the quality field.
Organize and present data to management for decision making.
Resolve disputes with internal and external customer involving product quality.
Respond to customer inquires concerning product, service and deliveries.
Participate in technical discussions with both customers and suppliers.
Provide input to department budget and work to control costs.
Comply with all company and departmental policies and procedures.
Qualifications / Experience / Skills
Three to five years experience working as a Quality Engineer with knowledge of gear manufacturing and machining.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Good knowledge of machining and heat treatment processes.

Extensive knowledge in the use and application of SPC.

Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Certified Quality Engineer-Preferred

Formal Problem Solving skills – Preferred

Knowledge of SAP – Preferred

Bachelor Degree in a technical field-Required
