We address the complete spectrum of energy challenges, including clean and renewable energy, energy efficiency and carbon management, hydropower and dams, thermal, geothermal and wind power generation, and transmission and distribution.

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Expression of Interest due to strong pipeline of projects within the Transmission business line, we may have an opening for an experienced Transmission Lead Engineer to lead the overhead lines and cables business. The individual will be responsible for leading opportunities and strategic initiatives to grow the Transmission business and delivering design as part of the delivery team across our Africa business. The role covers the following key areas:

Duties and Responsibilities:

Scoping and preparation of proposals

Undertake site visits during the project lifecycle

Prepare OH&S project plans

Build and lead a team of engineers and designers for the delivery of overhead line and underground cable design

Provide technical support to the Design Team on all aspects of transmission systems design

Interface and develop a healthy working relationship with our key clients

Provide advisory services to our key clients on transmission systems

Facilitate Safety in design workshops

Undertake design reviews and verification of design

Develop and optimise design processes to increase efficiency of designs

Develop and Manage budgets for transmission discipline

Design Management – cost, schedule and resource management

Minimum Requirements


15-20 years related experience in Transmission
Preferred Skills:

Must be confident performing presentations to clients and participating in national or international forums.

Must have a reasonably strong business development acumen.

In depth knowledge of Transmission Line and underground Cable design

Must have demonstrated experience working for key utilities in Africa.

Good understanding of the power systems and networks

Knowledge on leading edge technology on Transmission Lines and Cables

Experienced in PLS CADD, PLS Tower and CYMCAP is essential

Must be able to work in a high performance team environment

Must be a self-starter

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical/Civil). Pr. Eng. is essential.
