Senior Transport Planner

Arup

London, United Kingdom

Arup is a firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. Through our work, we make a positive difference in the world. As a wholly independent organisation, we are owned in trust for the benefit of our employees and their dependants; with no shareholders or external investors we determine our own business priorities and direction.

We have an opportunity for a senior transport planner who is passionate about creating excellent places and effective transport networks to join our successful transport consulting team in London. Our practice is involved in development, strategy and infrastructure projects for public and private sector clients. These include high profile projects such as HS2, airport expansion and strategic city residential, commercial and regeneration schemes in London and the southeast.

You will need to bring key skills in strategic network planning for all transport modes, interchange design, transport assessments, and all aspects of client liaison including funding negotiations, stakeholder engagement, and project management.

Our projects require a broad range of skills and the ability to deliver quality work within a fast-moving and deadline-driven environment. Candidates should enjoy taking task responsibility as part of larger project teams and be keen to broaden their technical skills to support growth within the practice and their own career development.

Role:

You will provide technical support on a variety of projects which may include individual site developments, development master plans and significant transport infrastructure schemes. You will need to use your transport planning and other skills to develop design proposals, analyse options, develop implementation strategies and assess benefits and impacts. You will need to be familiar with the wider development planning process so that you can advise our clients in supporting planning applications and consents.

You will be working as part of one or more project teams led by a project director or manager. We will also support you to develop into a project management role in Arup. You will also need to be able to work with wider multi-disciplinary design and planning teams. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential as you will be involved in preparing reports and advice notes and attending meetings. You may also be involved in the preparation of commercial bids.

We are looking for people who are enthusiastic about transport, its wider role and the contribution it can make to shaping the future. Good interpersonal skills are important and you must be able to work collaboratively and flexibly with colleagues who have a range of backgrounds and experience. You will also be willing to learn new skills and committed to developing your own career and supporting junior colleagues in their own development.
