Senior Engineer - Electrical

In December 2012 a Joint Venture of Arup and Morgan Sindall Group was appointed as the delivery partner to Sellafield Ltd for their Infrastructure Strategic Alliance (ISA). Our role is to prioritise, plan, programme, manage and deliver a range of non-nuclear essential infrastructure services including all utilities, transport and supporting buildings. The contract will run for up to 15 years and is expected to generate revenue to our Joint Venture of between £1bn and £1.5bn. We are continuing to build our core team of highly-skilled specialists, based in West Cumbria and co-located with our partners. This is an excellent career growth opportunity for right individual to develop technical and management skills.

Reporting to the Team Leader you will be a key member within this close-knit, multi-disciplinary core team that advises a wider team of over 50 staff. As part of the Arup ISA core team, your expertise will be integral in ensuring the success of the program by advising, scoping, and planning smart in order to deliver lean while retaining technical excellence in our front end engineering services.


Working very closely with the ISA Design Team you will be responsible for understanding and assisting in the delivery of an integrated programme of works: in particular, you will provide technical support related to your engineering discipline e.g. feasibility studies, investigations, dealing with technical queries, project technical inputs and long-term technical requirements. A necessary part of the role will be to interface with the Sellafield engineering discipline to understand needs and develop a strong working relationship. Your technical input and assurance will result in the successful and timely execution of projects, including: HV Electrical Distribution, large-scale steam-generation and distribution, complex boiler projects, commercial building, heating/ventilation, robotic flask maintenance, CHP and general electrical infrastructure.

While the provision of engineering support is a key part of your role, it is expected that your involvement will be varied including input and support in to: studies for future planning, preparation of contract documentation, client meetings, ‘fast response’ emergent work delivery, attending multi-disciplinary meetings, providing a ‘point of contact’ service to the client for technical queries and even scheduling projects where needed.

It is essential that you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as you will be a key technical ambassador for Arup on the ISA Programme, working closely with our client as well as the wider engineering community. You will be a self-motivated, proactive, realistic and collaborative individual that strives to deliver solutions of the highest quality and exhibits an excellent attention to detail: your actions should inspire confidence in clients, partners and peers alike.


A demonstrable track record of managing engineering processes and assets to achieve delivery within an electrical engineering role/environment, including experience influencing professional peers and clients as well as overseeing and guiding technical personnel in the definition, implementation and delivery of engineering work packages.
·Significant demonstrable expertise in one or more relevant specific specialist areas within electrical engineering.
·Experience of working within a regulated and quality assured system in a capacity where both other staff and key decisions are reliant upon your professional engineering judgment and where design and guiding other technical personnel was a major part of the role.

Flexible Working:

Based in our co-located offices in Whitehaven or Risley (Warrington). However, as Sellafield is a working site it is expected that you will spend a portion of your time n Cumbria as required by the projects, with travel to other offices as required.
