Senior/Principal Engineer (Traffic & Local Roads)

Our global network of top-tier specialists delivers comprehensive services over the full life cycle of a project to benefit clients in government and private industries.

We are currently expanding our Traffic & Local Roads Teams in Glasgow and Edinburgh and are looking to recruit a Senior or Principal Level Engineer. This is due to several major project wins across Scotland and the UK. The Traffic team is focused on developing engineering measures to achieve the safe efficient movement and interaction of pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles. We focus mainly on developing and appraising practical solutions which require consideration of traffic flows, road geometry, cycle facilities, traffic signs, pavement engineering, traffic signals and intelligent transport systems. We strive to achieve the optimum use of the available space which can often be constrained, particularly in urban areas.

Our Edinburgh team is located at 1Tanfield which is only 11 minutes’ walk from Edinburgh’s popular George Street and an even shorter walk to a whole host of established amenities and services nearby. Our Glasgow team are located at the Aurora building, 120 Bothwell Street in the heart of the City Centre.

Our modern offices and teams have multi-disciplinary design and planning capability and this role will suit individuals who want to develop career in traffic and sustainable engineering solutions and who share our enthusiasm to support our expanding workload and clients.

Candidates should be proficient in industry standard software engineering tools such as Autocad/ Civls3D. Knowledge of add-on software packages such as Autotrack, KeySign and Keyline would also be beneficial. Similarly, experience in traffic modelling software including LINSIG and JUNCTIONS 9 would be beneficial as we require our engineers to have a full set of design skills, i.e. they would be expected to take projects through from feasibility/ preliminary design to detailed design. The core responsibilities will be:
Undertake traffic engineering studies from preliminary design to detailed design
Assist in the preparation of fee proposals and contribute to major bids.
Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief and national design guidance.
Client management
Stakeholder engagement
Manage sub-consultants to produce deliverables against agreed timescales and in line with budget.
Sharing knowledge and supporting the team to continue to develop as a leading group in project delivery of transportation projects
Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and to promote a culture of awareness within the team and our clients.

Demonstrate experience and knowledge of developing feasibility, preliminary and detailed design schemes.
Knowledge and experience in some of the following design aspects: cycling, walking, bus priority, traffic calming, parking and junction design.
Knowledge of local and national design standards
Response to client and stakeholder queries.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD
Proficient user of MS Excel and Word.
