Assistant Telecoms Engineer

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work in our well established railway design consultancy located in Birmingham city centre. The position is based within our telecommunications engineering team.

Our telecommunications team undertake design development, outline and detailed designs for both heavy rail and light transit systems, incorporating; infrastructure enhancements, station platform alterations, station construction/ refurbishments, tramway extensions including control system integration. The successful candidate will provide support to carry out the design of these elements.

Job Summary

This will involve undertaking the following activities;
CAD (2D and 3D)
Design Support - production of design deliverables including specifications, reports, material schedules, engineering drawings and technical schematics
Co-ordination with other disciplines (internal and external)
Attendance at internal and external co-ordination, progress and design review meetings
Providing design support during construction and Testing & Commissioning stages

Minimum requirements

Qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or Communications Disciplines
CAD Experience
Knowledge of UK Railway Telecoms Infrastructure
Knowledge of installation, maintenance or condition assessments of equipment on Network Rail or LUL infrastructure
Experience of designing Operational Telecoms, and Station Information and Surveillance Systems such as CIS, PA/VA systems and CCTV cameras.
To have adequate health and fitness
Ability to work within a team and with team members located in different UK and overseas offices
Able to produce written communication that is easily understood
Good interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

Competent in Micro Station/AutoCAD
Experience of producing telecoms design packages
Willing to travel and work at various locations within the UK
Willing to work unsocial hours as required on an occasional basis
Holder of IRSE Telecoms Assistant Design License (or working towards)
