Senior Structural Engineer

Arup

Manchester, United Kingdom

Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. Through our work, we make a positive difference in the world: we are owned in trust for the benefit of our employees and their dependants; with no shareholders or external investors we determine our own business priorities and direction.

Advanced Technology and Research (AT+R) is a group of skilled individuals who provide advice on a wide range of problems based on a thorough understanding of the principals involved and, where appropriate, using advanced analysis techniques.

This is a new opportunity for someone to strengthen and develop our existing capability to provide advice on steel and steel-concrete composite construction to both internal and external clients, globally. In this role you will provide expert advice to complex problems on a wide range of projects across our hugely varied project portfolio. You will be managed and mentored by a global leader in this field, so it's an excellent opportunity to gain significant technical development in this field.

In this role you can join our established AT+R team in one of our offices in either our London, Manchester or Solihull.

Role

As a member of the team of specialist structural engineers in our AT+R group, you will have a challenging, varied and interesting workload that will primarily involve providing specialist input to projects across the practice. This will include technical advice, specialist representation for bids or problem resolution, delivery of small packages, review or tool development. In addition you will be involved in disseminating best practice throughout the firm and liaising with external bodies.

The mix of project work will include interpretation of codes and standards, advice on analysis and design including connections, review of specifications, ad-hoc advice, problem investigation and much more. Your involvement will vary from a brief phone conversation to being an integral part of the project team and may require occasional overseas travel.

You will have the opportunity, and will be encouraged to develop expertise in particular areas of steel design and construction to suit your interests and to complement existing expertise within the team.
