Audio Visual Consultant

We are looking for a consultant to join our audio visual and multimedia consultancy team, which is based within Arup Digital. We provide a broad range of consultancy services ranging from strategy, through detailed design and technical review, to project support and management.

Our clients come from many markets, making for a varied and interesting profile. They include corporate and financial clients, sports and education clients, and residential and commercial developers. We have global clients for whom we manage all of their audio visual projects around the world. We are looking for an enthusiastic person with a good understanding of audio visual design and of project management and with good interpersonal skills. The role is based at our London office.


The role is for a consultant to work alongside other members of our audio visual and multimedia team. The successful candidate will be working with our senior staff primarily on the audio visual design and management of multiple fast-track EMEA audio visual projects for a leading global client. The role will involve:

• Review of client requirements and preparation of project documentation for multiple projects across EMEA on behalf of our global client

• Input into design of custom spaces

• Monitoring of audio visual installation companies during construction and liaison with project representatives

• On-site witness of commissioning of installations

The successful candidate will also be involved in projects for other clients, working alongside senior staff in the technical design process and the integration of audio visual and ICT infrastructure requirements into architectural and services designs.

Requirements and skills

We are looking for someone with a typically around of 3 years’ practical experience of audio visual systems and ICT infrastructure design, installation and project management, gained from another consultancy, an audio visual integrator or from the systems support team of a manufacturer. Preferably experience of installation or commissioning on-site. No degree qualification is needed.

Audio visual design experience shall cover audio systems, video and graphics systems and control systems. ICT infrastructure shall cover ICT cabling and/or networks. An understanding of IP networking is essential.

The successful candidate must display:

• Good communications skills, both in written English and Oral English for both technical and non-technical readers/listeners

• Good interpersonal skills

• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while keeping to deadlines

• Strong computer skills including proficiency in Revit/AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• A basic understanding of commercial issues such as time management

• Ability to be a team player

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

• Knowledge of audio systems, signal types and installations; understanding of different application areas and of how they are used.

• Knowledge of video and graphics systems, signal types and installations; understanding of different application areas and of how they are used.

• Knowledge of control solutions.

• Knowledge of structured cabling or networks, design principles and standards

Desirable Skills and Knowledge:

A candidate with some or all of the following skills and knowledge would be desirable:

• Experience in the programming and configuration of systems (AMX, Crestron, Medialon, QSC, Polycom, Cisco, BSS etc) would be preferable.

• Use of wired and wireless networks in audio visual systems

• Understanding of systems and building integration protocols, eg KNX
