We are seeking a senior civil engineer to join our growing water team in Newcastle to assist in the delivery of a wide range of infrastructure and water/environmental projects.

The Newcastle office is well established and comprises about 100 engineers and consultants working in the infrastructure and buildings sectors. Our growing flood risk, rivers and coastal team comprises around 10 civil engineers, geomorphologists, hydraulic modellers, GIS specialists and technicians, working closely with our global centre of excellence for water skills in Leeds.

All Arup staff have the opportunity to work on both local and global projects. Using our skills networks we bring together broad-minded individuals from a wide range of disciplines and encourage them to look beyond the constraints of their own specialism.

Role

We are looking for a senior civil engineer with a broad range of skills in the water environment, including: river engineering; reservoir safety; river restoration; flood risk management; SUDS; drainage; and hydraulic design.

This role will involve work at any stage of a project from concept/feasibility and business case through to consenting, detailed design, contract preparation and site supervision. You will be responsible for the preparation of design related deliverables – drawings, calculations, and reports – at all stages of design, and for the commercial, technical and resource management of your projects. You will also be expected to support business development activities and be able to prepare fee proposals and tender submissions.

We would expect you to have a particular focus on the delivery of fluvial and surface water flood risk management and river restoration projects, and have direct experience of undertaking appraisal, outline and detail design of these types of schemes. Other work would include support on coastal flood and erosion protection schemes and flood risk assessments related to wider infrastructure and development projects.

Requirements and skills

As a Chartered Engineer with CIWEM or ICE, you will be looking to further develop technical and project management skills, to be comfortable in client facing situations, and aiming to progress to a senior role. To perform successfully in this role you will be a bright, enthusiastic engineer with at least 6 years post graduate experience.

Reward and Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary at all levels, and one of the best benefits package in our sector.
