Role

We have an opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who is Chartered via either CIBSE or IMechE, and who is looking for technically challenging work on cutting-edge projects, to join our established Building Engineering Team in London. The successful candidate will be expected to take a lead role in developing the Building Services design on a range of building typologies and project sizes.

In terms of high-profile well known projects that Building Engineering London have been instrumental in working on include the following:

• 122 Leadenhall Street (The Cheesegrater).

• The Shard.

• 52 Lime Street (The Scalpel).

• Qatar National Library, Doha.

• Television Centre, White City.

Key responsibilities:

• Engage with the client, project end-users and contractors.

• Lead mechanical design activities and assist in cross discipline coordination.

• Review design and construction programmes and highlight key risks.

• Potentially lead the multidisciplinary delivery of the project.

• Input to and/or lead project and design team meetings.

• Manage the discipline/project resources including production of drawings.

• Coordinate the production of reports and specifications.

• Attend tender interviews and conduct tender analysis.

• Review and input to commissioning plans.

• Spend time on site during construction and commissioning phases.

• Grow and develop a team using internal resources and strategic hires to ensure successful project delivery.

Requirements and Skills

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic senior engineer to lead the design of an exciting project. You will be responsible working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary design teams, taking responsibility for projects from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results.

You will be chartered with solid or extensive experience in the field of Building Services Engineering, with a proven record for delivering projects well.
You will be committed to your own professional development and looking for challenging work to develop your engineering skill.

Skills and Capabilities

Essential:

• Degree qualified in Mechanical or HVAC Engineering, ideally to Masters level.

• Have achieved Chartered Engineer status via an appropriate professional institution such as IMechE or CIBSE.

• Extensive and proven experience in the field of mechanical building services design with experience across a range of project scales and building types.

• Experienced in sustainable building design and in satisfying the regulatory and voluntary codes associated with sustainability and energy strategy.

• A extensive awareness of building design beyond own discipline.

• Experience of leading teams on multi-disciplinary projects.

• Ability to work with the highest calibre of both UK based and international
Architects and understand architectural intent.

• Able to understand the balance of engineering priorities on differing projects.

• Able to quickly develop successful client relationships.

• An ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines is essential.

• A good understanding of industry software packages including Excel, IES/TAS and Revit.

• Excellent planning and organisation skills.

Desirable:

• Design experience of working on commercial or residential buildings.

• Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.

• Experience of site based projects.
