Senior Mechanical Engineer

We have an opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who is Chartered via either CIBSE or IMechE, and who is looking for technically challenging work on cutting-edge projects, to join our established Building Engineering Team in London.

The successful candidate will be expected to take a lead role in developing Building Services design on a range of building typologies and project sizes. You will become a permanent member of our creative, friendly team and will work on some of the most exciting and innovative buildings across the world with leading architects.

In terms of high-profile well known projects that Building Engineering London have been instrumental in working on include the following:

• 122 Leadenhall Street (The Cheesegrater).

• The Shard.

• 52 Lime Street (The Scalpel).

• Qatar National Library, Doha.

• Television Centre, White City.

Key responsibilities:

• Leading the design of the mechanical building systems including air conditioning, heating, natural and mechanical ventilation and building controls.

• Leading the development of appropriate building energy strategies and sustainability strategies for buildings, including communicating and agreeing these plans with the project team members and relevant authorities.

• Leading the spatial and technical co-ordination of the building services and their integration into the building design.

• Managing the production of drawings, reports and specifications.

• Supervising and coordinating the work of others and coordinating work with engineers of other disciplines.

• Liaising with the client and other external team members.

• Working across multiple projects with different design teams.

• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team.

Requirements and Skills

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic senior engineer with excellent modelling, design, technical, and software skills who enjoys working collaboratively in multi-professional design teams, taking responsibility for projects from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results.

You will be chartered with solid or extensive experience in the field of Building Services Engineering, with a heavy focus on expert use of analysis software.

You will be committed to your own professional development and looking for challenging work to develop your engineering skill.

Skills and Capabilities


• Degree qualified in Mechanical or HVAC Engineering, ideally to Masters level.

• Have achieved Chartered Engineer status via an appropriate professional institution such as IMechE or CIBSE.

• Extensive and proven experience in the field of mechanical building services design with experience across a range of project scales and building types.

• Experienced in sustainable building design and in satisfying the regulatory and voluntary codes associated with sustainability and energy strategy.

• A good awareness of building design beyond own discipline.

• Experience of leading teams on multi-disciplinary projects.

• Ability to work with the highest calibre of both UK based and international Architects and understand architectural intent.

• Able to understand the balance of engineering priorities on differing projects
• Able to quickly develop successful client relationships.


• Design experience of working on commercial or residential buildings.

• Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.

• Experience of site based projects.
