Mechanical Engineer (Critical Systems)

Arup have been designing data centres since the birth of the industry. We understand our customer’s needs, supplier and contractor base, and drivers for on-time, on-budget and quality delivery.

Arup’s Critical Systems team is focused largely on the Data Centre and Financial Services sectors. The team has seen significant growth over the last few years and this has created the opportunity for an additional Data Centre focused Mechanical Engineer to join the team.

The successful candidate will be expected to:-
Engage with the client, project end-users and contractors
Lead mechanical design activities and assist in cross discipline coordination
Review design and construction programmes and highlight key risks
Potentially lead the multidisciplinary delivery of the project
Input to and/or lead project and design team meetings
Manage the discipline/project resources including production of drawings
Coordinate the production of reports and specifications
Attend tender interviews and conduct tender analysis
Review and input to commissioning plans
Attend Factory Acceptance Test (FATs) for key plant and equipment
Spend time on site during construction and commissioning phases
Grow and develop a team using internal resources and strategic hires to ensure successful project delivery


We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer, preferably with data centre experience.

The role will involve:
Working with multi-disciplinary teams, internal and external to Arup
Understanding the client’s business and basis of operation
Developing concepts, appraising and recommending optimum design solutions
Leading the client in the decision making process in the context of their business
Reporting in a clear and concise manner
Commissioning management
Client liaison and presentations
Site monitoring and reporting

This will include:
Being part of a multi-disciplinary services design team
Bidding for new projects
Report preparation
Commissioning management
Client liaison and presentation
Keeping up to date with developments in the data centre industry
Maintaining a wide array of professional relationships in the data centre industry (clients / suppliers / competitors / etc)


We require:
Solid Data Centre design experience
Knowledge of current regulations, best practice and codes
A desire to further develop the Data Centre business
The candidate will be:
A Chartered Engineer
Happy to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Comfortable to lead Data Centre projects
Willing to travel
