In December 2012 a Joint Venture of Arup and Morgan Sindall Group was appointed as the delivery partner to Sellafield Ltd for their Infrastructure Strategic Alliance (ISA). Our role is to prioritise, plan, programme, manage and deliver a range of non-nuclear essential infrastructure services including all utilities, transport and supporting buildings. The contract will run for up to 15 years and is expected to generate revenue to our Joint Venture of between £1bn and £1.5bn. We are continuing to build our core team of highly-skilled specialists, based in West Cumbria and co-located with our partners. We are looking to fill a number of roles within the ISA including Responsible Engineer (RE), Lead Engineers, Engineers and Designers across the range of disciplines (Civil/Structural, Electrical, Civil and Process).

Reporting to the Team Leader you will be a key member within this close-knit, multi-disciplinary core team that interacts with the wider team of over 50 staff. As part of the Arup ISA core team, your expertise will be integral in ensuring the success of the program by advising, scoping, and planning smart in order to deliver lean while retaining technical excellence in our front end engineering services.

On a day-day basis, you will provide operational and technical support related to Civil Engineering e.g. lifetime plan, feasibility studies, investigations, first point of contact for technical queries, project technical inputs and long-term technical requirements. A necessary part of the role will be to interface with the Sellafield engineering discipline to understand needs and develop a strong working relationship. Your work will be focused around supporting, assessing and assuring a wide range of projects.

While the provision of engineering support is a key part of your role, it is expected that your involvement will be varied including input and support in to: studies for future planning, preparation of contract documentation, client meetings, ‘fast response’ emergent work delivery, attending multi-disciplinary meetings.

It is essential that you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as you will be a technical ambassador for Arup on the ISA Programme, working closely with our client as well as the wider engineering community. You will be a self-motivated, proactive, realistic and collaborative individual that strives to deliver solutions of the highest quality and exhibits an excellent attention to detail: your actions should inspire confidence in clients, partners and peers alike.

Requirements

Essential Skills and Knowledge

• Numerative, with good technical knowledge in Civil engineering analysis and design.
• Experience of developing solutions with varying levels of detail from masterplanning phase through to construction information.
• Be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising designers, engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance to less experienced members of the design team.
• Manage own and others time, ensuring the production of project and design deliverables to agreed deadlines and within budget.
• Proven ability to write accurate, clear, high quality reports in English.
• Ability to respond to Project Manager and Client requests and meet challenging deadlines.
• Experience in one or more relevant specific specialist areas within your field of engineering.
• Ideally competent in the use of CAD and GIS (e.g. Bentley MicroStation/AutoCAD) software for drawing and/or designing, and use of projectwise.
• Experience in use in various design software packages would be an advantage.
• Experience of working within a regulated and quality assured system in a capacity where both other staff and key decisions are reliant upon your professional engineering judgment and where design and guiding other technical personnel was a major part of the role.
• Experience of working in roles where knowledge of civil engineering was a key attribute.
• Experience within the utilities sector (knowledge of Sellafield Ltd considered an asset).
• Clean driving license.

Qualifications

• You will have an appropriate HND, university degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering.
• Close to gaining professional membership (or already a Chartered member) the ICE or similar.
