Tax Compliance Assistant

This role sits within the Global Tax team of Global Finance, supporting the Head of Tax and working closely with the Tax Compliance Manager. You will be working to assist in the management of the Group’s tax activities, with particular focus on global tax compliance.
The role will involve reviewing and co-ordinating some of the tax aspects that are derived from our finance systems, and as such, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in respect of corporation tax in the UK and overseas.
This role will require liaison with all our offices globally to monitor and assist in their local compliance submissions as appropriate. In time, you will gain greater responsibility for certain regions.

Role

Support the Tax Compliance Manager in the co-ordination and management of the international tax compliance process.
Assist with the preparation and review of corporate tax returns.
Assist with the preparation and review of tax packs for input into the annual financial statements.
Assist with tax clearance and tax residence certificate applications from relevant tax authorities.
Assist with the review of VAT returns.
Produce reports to monitor projects and help with data gathering as required to assist with tax compliance processes.
Support the Head of Tax with ad-hoc projects as required as part of the implementation of our global tax policies and the tax strategy.

Requirements and skills

Essential
Typically around 3-5 years of experience working in Finance.
Understanding of management accounting systems and ability to analyse data.
Understanding of Statutory accounts processes and the data underlying these.
Keen interest in learning about tax and its interaction across Arup finance systems and projects.
Ability to manage projects and organise own workload.
Good computer skills including Excel.
Desirable:
Understanding and practical experience of tax accounting including VAT and withholding tax.
General understanding of tax issues and how they fit into finance.
An understanding of project accounting.
Knowledge of Arup systems or similar.
